This is it's first ever bloom. I'm so proud of my little plant

Both plants are rooting pretty well too. I thought it looked kind of neat so I took a picture

That's so awesome. I'd be proud if I was you too. Reminds me of gf's anubias flowering some time ago. So congrats, you must be doing something right!!! :D Good for you, and hope all of us can realise the full potential of our plants like you have.

wow thats really nice :). Does that plant prefer to gorw attached to something or do they do ok in sand?

they will rot if the horizontal root is buried. always tie anubias to wood for best results.

well done auratus, it's looking pretty healthy in there, the roots are great aren't they, god knows how they feel their way into all the crevices. i've spent many an hour wondering that. in about 6 months those roots will look like a clentched fish holding onto the wood, the long root at the front is just the first of many.

I have the root exposed but its in sand. Might try and tie it to wood. I hope mine flowers too

That flower is really beautiful. How long did it take your anubias to get established and start growing? Have you had that anubias in your tank for a long time in order for it to bloom?

okay the rhizome is the horizontal (thick) root that the leaves sprout from. that is the bit that cant be buried. you can lay the plant on the substrate with the rhizome above the gravel and the roots below it but it's not ideal. either trap it between 2 rocks on the substrate to elevate the rhizome a bit or strap it to wood.

this is one of mine that was trapped between rocks on the gravel. it was fine there and only got moved because it grew way too big and needed chopping up into lots of little anubias's

Looks good , Auratus .

It's tough to keep algae from growing on those plants , well done .

Great to see those kinds of results in your aquarium Auratus! Those roots look phenomenal too. Thanks for sharing. How long have you had your anubias for?
For anyone who knows: What does the sprouting of the anubias flower mean? Is it done sprouting new leaves? Will the flower continue to grow until out of the tank? I heard that it takes more energy to sprout the flower then an actual new leaf, is that true?

Thanks guys :*)

I guess I've had them for about a year. The one that bloomed is the larger plant and had 2 leaves  . The other had 2 leaves but one was half rotted, I really didn't think they'd live but I wanted some anubias! They are both growing off the wood so I need to place some more in front for them to attach to. The flower took about a week before it actually opened and has been open for three days now. They have really taken off in the last few months and are sprouting a new leaf weekly.

I recently bought some broad leaf Anubias Barteri... that plant is madness :S

I also got some Nana var. petite from aquabid that was supposed to be regular nana, but it's making completely seperate baby nanas with it's own rhyzome I can break off so that's neat too!

Love your website, much better than a lot of other tripod websites. Must be soo much maintenance time every week..all those water changes. Surprised that you could take care of so many fish tank...do you have someone helping you?

That anubias is in the 18 gallon right? What's the lighting situation on that tank? Is it a low light planted tank, or do you have c02 and ferts and stuff? That tank is really tall..how tall is it exactly?

Congrats on the bloom,

nice pics tho, it will be cool to see the roots in a couple of months :)

The only thing on the tank is 2 ten watt compact flourescents. No ferts or anything. I actually need to update the picture on the site. This is the tank now. Those onion plants have gotten huge since this picture, I can pull a stem out and it'll stretch like 8 inches out of the tank! Oh and the stupid algae spots on the glass are gone, I got myself a razor blade!
