Which antibiotics should I have on hand in case of a problem? If I notice a problem that needs treating, I don't want to have to wait a day or two till I can get to the LFS.

Well, it depends really. If you have fish that are prone to diseases - example...if you have neon tetras then get a treatment for neon tetra disease. The most common diseases I would say are fin rot, swim bladder, and white spot/ich. In this case, I keep melafix and protozin handy for the white spot and fin rot, and any fish that have swim bladder or constipation, I always feed them shelled peas.
Hope this helps! :D
If I think of any more diseases that are fairly common, then I'll edit this post and let you know!

Tetracycline is the best antibiotic you can get, as it gram negative and gram positive, so it treats a large percentage of deseases.

I think tetracycline wipes out the bacteria colony doesn't it? I have a 5 gal hospital tank so that's not a problem as long as I can treat fish separate from main tank.

Only use tetracycline in a hospital tank as it does wipe the bacteria colony out.
