I have silver dollars, so I know your pain ALL too well. Can't seem to bring myself to tank them out of the tank though.
I have had success with onions (regular, dwarf, and other), java fern, moss balls, java moss, anubias nana, and anubias coffeelia. I recently acquired some Vallisneria Gigantea, and it disappeared in a matter of days. I recommend Coffeelia over Nana, as the dollars seem to nibble on the Nana more, and the Coffeelia is quite striking by comparison. Occassionally, a nana leaf gets nibbled, so you can wait for it to be eaten more before snapping it off the rhizome. They grow at a rate a little above the rate they get nibbled in the tank. Try and think about as if you are giving the Barbs a well-balanced, somewhat expensive diet thus far. They are likely to be very healthy and happy. By the way, a plant that goes very well with the Coffeelia, as they both are very textured and deep, is the onion plant Crinum Natans. I ordered a few from aquariumguys.com, and they look awesome in the tank as a midground plant, behind the Coffeelia. I'd order Java Fern, Coffeelia, and Crimum Natans if I were you, while also aqiring dirrent mosses/algaes.

after trying a few plants such as swords, cambomba and large java ferns i have givin in to using fake plants although i would imgine anubias and java moss would work also like u said onion plants maybe other bulbs too??

www.lastradingpost.com shoud have some nice ones for good prices

I had Tinfoils in with java fern, java moss, anubias, crypts and swords. I'd try anubias - I think they're the toughest most inedible aquarium plants i've encountered so far

I feel your pain. My tin foils lasted for 2 months in my dads tank before we gave them back to the pet shop. Even tho he has a 72 gall tank, we felt that it was still too small for them and they would devour every plant in the heavily planted aquarium.

Wow, that stinks. Anubias are not cheap, and even the onions will start having bites taken out of them...you'll end up have to cut them down to the area before the damaged part each time. I spent much money on plants when I could simply not give in to having to give up my huge silver dollars. Trade in the tinfoils or don't keep plants. It sucks, but it's the only anser I am afraid. After I traded in the dollars, I actually had plants that grew and reproduced...changes everything for the good....and saves quite a bit of cash if you are relying on plants from petstores or online companies to keep replinishing and trying different alternatives.
