Another Tank Stocking

Ok so I have a fully established, planted standard 20 gallon tank. My current stock is
6 Neon Tetras
2 Otos
5 Cherry Shrimp

I was already told on this forum and idea of what I could have, and due to some past issues I've needed to rethink my stocking plans. Here's an idea of what I want

8-10 Neon Tetras
3 Otos
6 Cherry Shrimp
A pair of Cockatoo Cichlids


I was wondering if anyone with past expieriance could tell me if the apistos will eat my cherry shrimp. All but one are at least an inch long. If the apistos do eat the CS, i was wondering if i could either get bigger shrimp that dont add to the bioload or instead get

5 DNRs (either all male or all female)
6 Rummy Nosed Tetras
3 Sparkling Gouramis


I was also wondering if the first stocking idea had room for either some pygmie corys or a single kuhli loach. All advice greatly appreciated

I'll chip in on the easy question, regarding a single Kuhli Loach. Awful idea, these are shy, social fish. If you decide you want them, try 10+, the extra numbers will give them confidence and in a tank that has many hiding options scattered around the tank floor, they will reward you with being out and about.
