Another Stocking Question

Hey everyone,

Sorry to ask like its an old track record on here about stocking ideas. I have been following up and reading about different stocking suggestions but want some advise on what I was thinking.

I have got a 340ltr/90gallon tank that has a few fish in already and want to start stocking again as it was brought 2nd hand. The filter is a Eheim 2028 with a rena smart heater 300watt which keeps my tank temp stable happily at 26 degree.

It is newly planted, fully cycled and running fine so just going through the stocking options.

I already have:

4x Bristlenose Catfish
3x Amano Shrimp
1x Black Neon Tetra (I know should be shoal it was what was in tank when I got it)
2x Dwarf Gourami

Now I was thinking of keeping what is in there and adding:

3x Amano Shrimp
15x Black Neon Tetra
20x Cardinal Tetra
2x Dwarf Gourami
4x Pearl (Lace) or Thicklipped Gourami
6x Zebra Loach

There are a few others I like but think I might already be over stocked if I got the above so need some input.

The others I was interest in are Glass Catfish & Dalmation Sailfin Molly. Has anyone got any input to what I would like. Would they change anything or got any other ideas on what would suit the tank better.

Well you've got plenty of space to play with.

The first thing I'd do is up the Black Neons to 10+ (like you said)

Next, I would introduce maybe another Characin that would compliment the Black Neon's. Maybe normal Neons, Cardinals or possibly Rummy Nose Tetra's.

A shoal of Loaches would be nice, maybe Botia Kubotai?

And finally maybe a few pairs of community Cichlids. Kribs? Keyholes? Rams?

Just some thoughts?

What you have put down seems ok, but it depends on what you are looking for.

The fish you have listed all come from different parts of the wolrd.

Tetras from the amazon, gouramis and loaches from India and the shrimps from japan. So I would presume (although I dont know) that the water parameters would need to be different for the typoes of fish you have chosen.

Maybe it would be better to choose fish from the same or similar regions and have a biotype tank.

Thats just my suggestion though. I like the idea of having two large shoals of tetras though like james said. Rummy noses are pretty cool.

I know they are all from different regions but as I started with what I have got and they are already mixed and been in there for a number of years I hope they would be OK. I am really just trying to up the numbers and add a few other fish.

I am pretty set on the Shoals of different neons and can decide which to go for to compliment the other fish once I know what I am going for, my other choice over the cardinals are the rummy nose. I do like the Botia Kubotai they look pretty smart and would make a good choice for my tank.

I haven't heard/read about mixing Gouramis as long as they are both the community type but thanks for the heads up. Will have a read about that etc.

I don't know much about the community Cichlids and every time I read something about one another source says it's wrong or it won't work. I like the look of all 3 that you have mentioned and I know my water parameters are good just not would work with the other fish.

So 2nd stocking idea is total:

4x Bristlenose Catfish
6x Amano Shrimp
16x Black Neon Tetra (I would buy them in groups of 5 as thats how they are sold at maidenhead)
4x Dwarf Gourami
20x Cardinal/Rummy Nose Tetra
6x Polka-dot Loach (Botia Kubotai)
2x Kribs
2x Rams

Cool, Biotype is just my preference, I like setting up tanks that kind of mirror the natural fish and habitats, but that doesn't mean you have to do it.

like I said I don't really know too much about some of the fish you have mentioned although they will probably all be ok.

The rams and kribs are cichlids but they are good community ones as long as they have a good size tank for their own terratories, (which you do).

Will you post pics once its up and sorted it will be cool to see.

Botia Kubotai they look pretty smart and would make a good choice for my tank.

Good choice! nice fish, who grow up to become great looking.

Will certainly get some pics up once its all sorted fish wise. I am trying different plants ect at same time so have allot to see how this develops but hope with variaty of fish it will work together while keeping different and interesting to everyone who gets to enjoy the tank be it from photos or seeing it in person.

My first ever tank I only got into about 2 months ago and am really just learning the basics which is why I haven't gone down the Biotype route as it should show which work best and which don't in my parameters and how I can adjust the to suit. Also I am limited to one tank as I am in flat so until I have room for two/three tanks I want to have some good variety although I do agree with the idea of the Biotype tanks.

Also from what I have read although allot of fish/plants are indigiounus to an area of the world parameters if measured are not all that dissimilar apart from a select few that seem to be fragile in certian conditions.

I am glad you like the idea of stocking though as at least it means hopefully I will give them a good habitate as well as something that is different and interesting to view.

My tank is located next to the dining table and is an open plan kitchen/living/dining area so pretty much always in full view.

Anyone else got any input to what I have choosen. Am I over/under stocked. Is my filtration enough? etc

Well after asking on here and getting my stocking just about right. I have been getting it ready to make sure it is all sorted for new fish arrivals my GF went out with her dad and came back with 3 Veil Tail Marble Angels, 2 Fully grown doctor fish & 1 Boesmani Rainbow fish which means I ahve had to take another look at my stocking.

I have als fallen for the L183 pleco's as well now which arrive end of next week.

Now I am looking at redoing my stocking to keep what have arrived.

I was looking to add:

2 more Boesmani Rainbow Fish
10 Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish
15 Black swords
20 Black Neon Tetra
4 More Dwarf Gourami's
6 Electric Blue Rams

Total Stockig would then be:

3 Veil Tailed Angel Fish
3 Boesmani Rainbow Fish
10 Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish
15 Black swords
20 Black Neon Tetra
6 Dwarf Gourami's
6 Electric Blue Rams
4 Bristlenose Catfish (Think I will sell these to make room for L183 Pleco's )
3 L183 Pleco's
3 Amano Shrimp (Until The Angels Get Them Anyways)

What do you all think, Overstocked? Bad Mix? Any input appreciated.
