I have found my platies a new home and was wondering if a pair of blue rams would be ok with the rest og my fish. The rest being in my signiture.

They should be fine in your tank. Just keap an eye on them for the first week. :D

why is everyone obsessed by german blue rams?
IMO, they're an overinbred very sensitive species. They catch diseases very easily and transmit those diseases to other tankmates. They stress really easily and ger sick all of a sudden.

I would rather suggest Bolivian Rams as they are just as fun to watch, much more hardy but a tad more agressive

Particular strains are inbred not all of them. Most disease come from the pet stores. They are easy to care for if proper steps are taken...

Blue Rams are great becuase they are sexier with their blue. Yet I now prefer Bolivians. I have 2 and they are great. They're fun to watch, much hardier than my Blue Ram, and stick up for themselves against my Tiger Barbs. They each have a cave and if any TB's come near they shoot out and chase them away. It's nice to see my TB's get a taste of their own medicine.

I personal love the German Blue Rams for the colours, they are just amazing!

But I do understand what you are saying about the Bolivian Rams.

Are the Golden Rams the same as the German Blue Rams to look after?

Gold and blue/german or balloon rams are the same species. If you can find strains of blue ram that have wild-caught fish in their near background (but aren't actualy wild-caught themselves), they're hardier than the various fancy tank-bred strains. However, I preffer bolivians (a completely different species of dwarf cichlid) - not because they are hardier but because I think they have a lot more character. Having said that, I doubt the 3 panda cories in your tank would enjoy the constant harassment from a breeding pair of rams. You should at least increase their number if you want any kind of dwarf cichlid in there that's likely to breed.

My pH is 8, so I don't think they would breed. :/

Can I keep just 1 Rams or do they need to be kept in pairs? :dunno:

Well, you also have to keep in mind that sometimes Blue Rams are the only ones available to some people. Not all of us can afford the shipping and/or are just plain stuck out in Boondock nowhere....

A lone Ram would be a lot happier than a pair, mostly because they are territorial and if there is only one, it wouldn't have to fend off intruders as often, or ever.
