Another Question - Algae

One more question (for now):

I have a lot of rockwork in my tank and lately I have noticed a lot of algae (I think it is algae) on the white lava rock. It started on the rocks just under the filter return, but now it is all over the tops of all the lava rocks. I think it looks natural, not bad, I just wonder if it will have any ill effects on the tank or if I shoud do something about it. It is like a green moss. I have a plec that is on these rocks sometimes but doesn't seem to ever clean it all up. I figure that is because it is hard for him to get into the crevices of the lava rock.

Green algae is formed with over use of light or sunlight falling on the tank, amongst other things.

Anything white is usually the first target.

If it's just green algae then a few Ottos will clean up but they will also need an algae supplement

The algae should not have any ill effects so long as it is kept under control. I know from your other post that you currently can not have any more fish, but when you do eventualy have space for more occupants, if you are looking to get rid of the algae, a pack of shrimp would work wonders. hair algea is a pain to remove by hand, and not many fish will eat it if other altermatives are offered, so choose carefuly if you are looking for fish to solve the problem.

you are right I can't have any more fish now. For now I will cut down on the light a little bit.
