Glad you saved the poor fish from the street poor thing she dosn't seem to have respect for the poor fish she keeps.
Without water stats in hard to say whats going off.
Being pale can be stress to parasites etc.
If there no sign of flicking and rubbing I doubt its a parasite, it could be stress if the water quality not good.
Do you run an airstone in your tank.

Well, without being too negative about where I live now, China has a very poor regard for animals. They are pretty much all considered 'disposible'. Dogs are moving up the list and people are really starting to have a lot of love and affection for them, and cats a bit too. However, things like turtles, lizards, birds and fishes are still mistreated and mis-cared for. I guess you can think about Canada or the UK 20, 30 or 40 years ago. I guess we didn't know much about animals as pets too much and really just didn't know how to care for them. Even now a days, in western countries, people have no idea about the difficulties and high maintenance of creatures like turtles or fish. The difference is that back home you can find the info you need thru people like yourselves. Where here they can only trust what they are told by people like the lady that threw my Ike angel fish in the street to just die because he's gimped up.

Anyway, to my boys. Well, the water being harsh or not..? I'm sure it's pretty harsh I bet. It's Chinese tap water. But these guys have lived in it their whole lives.

Yes, I have a super-duper high flow bubbler. Just put it back in there a couple of weeks ago. I also have a Jebo 819 5 layer canister filter. Media is simple ceramic rings and sponge. Not too mature, but cycled. I changed all the media about 3 to 4 weeks ago because I hadn't done a full change since rehoming my turtles in the summer. Also because of this illness crap I wanted to get rid of that old stuff just to make sure it wasn't part of the problem.

Well, maybe after the weekend I'll try and take a closer look around the big pet market. And really look closely in the big fish shops and see about niitrates and nitrites tests. Are they usually strips of paper too like the pH or more complicated. If more complicated I might not have English instructions on any packages.

I'll test the pH again now...6.5 again, just like a week ago. Possibly a touch darker but not 7.0. Is that decent?

No flicking or scratching.

The weird thing about all this is how it's just isolated to my cats. I have a big ol' pleco and he's been around as long as my cats. I'd think that he would show similar symptoms but seems lovely and fine.
