That fish dosn't look well and odd looking to me does it have a tumour.
When you say loss of colour do you mean pale.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
Need alot more info i'm afraid.
On size of tank in gallons or litres.
How may fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What do you feed the fish?

If the bulge is soft looking and filled with fluid yes a bacterial med.
But if hard and solid could be dealing with a tumour.
Catfish need roughage in there diet veg.

Tumor? Really can't be both of my cats have the same symptoms, one started about 3 weeks before the other.
By loss of colour I actually mean all pigment has actually come out of the skin, it's not a coating to their skin.
No rubbing or flicking, normal feeding habits they just don'/t play with each other as much as they used to.
Poo-poo is little nuggets, size of seame seeds.
Tank is 200 liters.
Fish, random, a few black skirts, hand full of head-and-tail lights, hand full of rainbows, big ol' pleco, a couple of danios, and a few angel fish. My fish have been dying off for the last few months. A couple fish a week.
Feeding fish, don't know, it's Chinese just random tropical fish food. The one thing that is different about the cats is they have been on a steady diet of turtle pellets for over a year. I used to have two tanks of turtles. They lived with one of the turtles. If you don't know about turtles they are actually very toxic co-habitants. The turtles have been gone since August. I have a big Jebo 819 canister filter that has a basic sponge and ceramic ring filling.

Hello Tweety, you probably missed my other posts about my big cat's problems. Unfortunitely, I live in China and to be honest I don't think I've seen ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, tests. I did buy paper ph let me see what it is. It looks like 6.5ph.

Wilder I'm not sure what you are saying? There is no bulge. I'm not sure what you're looking at in the photo. The cats have no physical signs of bumps or bulges. They are exactly the same as before just loosing pigment.

You might have something there with the diet though. I always fed my turtles zucchini rings and veggie stuffs, you know like how you would do for plecos. The cats always munched on that stuff too. I'll start getting some veggies in there right away. As far as peas....you're not going to believe it...it's almost impossible to find peas here in Northern China. I know I know sounds crazy, but I'm in a crazy land.

About the 50% water change and anti-bacteria stuff, again the Chinese translations. I did buy some stuff that has English writing on it maybe by this discription you can tell me if you think it's anti-bacteria stuff or not.

"This disease preventative produces billions of protector bacteria that stop the activity of pathbogens so they don't come back in 2nd and 3rd stages, killing the fish. Effective against Ich, closed fins, velvet, body fungus, hole in the head, and vibrio without chemicals or pesticides. Completely safe for the fish, corals and aquatic plants."

Sounds like a pro-bacterial med.

This is about the best English translation I've ever read in China. YOu think this product is and anti-bacteria. I was the best thing I could find with english on it.

Thanks for the info.

Okay. I'm having high hopes for this food solution. I must say that since my tutrles have gotten a new home I have neglected the idea of putting veggies in the tank, even for the pleco. I have turtle pellets which sink and the pleco and cats eat those. I've just put a couple of weighted-down zucchini rings in the tanks and turned off the lights and the cats are going mental. Even shooing the pleco away. I also cooked some peices of carrot and dropped them in too. They are munchin on those as well. I'll keep my eyes peeled for peas. One of my cats is really tearing into that zuchini right now, wow. I know they would eat that stuff when I fed it to my turtles but I guess I never considered that they might need that in their diets as well.

I'll keep you informed how things go. Thanks again.

Great to get them on a better diet.
Throw the turtle pellets away or give them to someone who has turtles.
That med you described it's for parasites, so no it isnt a bacterial med.
Hows the fish doing now.
Wish I could send you some peas but it'ts a long way to china, what green foods can you get hold of.

i had this a while ago in one of my tanks at home, wiped out quite a few and was hard to control, eventually it faded away after large water changes 2 times a week with intense gravel vacs as well, culling at the first point of symptoms made a vast difference as well as horrible as it sounds but over a month i lost about £100 worth of fish and had to go to measures that i really dont like to aid the elimination of whatever it was, never found out what it was but its not nice to have, good luck and i hope you can get it under control very soon.

Culling...I hate the sound of that word and what it represents, but I understand the necessity of it.

Things are looking up for what ever reason. Today is the first day that things are looking up. Over the last week my cat has turned completely white. I didn't take a picture. I just didn't have the heart. However, I bought some other med and have been feeding lots of veggies. It's blue like toilet tank wafers. Turns the tank completely blue and stains my fingers. I've used two doses and like I said yesterday and this morning my fish looks like he's has gotten some colour back. I'll take a picture. Still worse looking then the second picture of my post at the top. I've added those pictures below too.

Sorry they are blury, I couldn't focus even when I did it manually.

Here's the other pictures from a couple of weeks ago.

nov1005.jpg

This was the worst one before he turned entirely white. He had very little if any brown colouration. So just picture him with NO BROWN, that's how he was for 3 days or so and has now gotten some colour back.

This one was a few days before the last one, progressed rapidly.

Food;
I gave them a couple of peices of eggplant yesterday, they were all gone when I got home. I gave them a cabbage leaf last night and it's whole this morning. I put a couple peices of brocoli (spl) a couple of days ago, cooked it just a touch. Munched on it a bit. Still zucchini. Maybe I can try string beans, or spinach leaves if we need something greener. Grabbed a couple spinach leaves from my neighbor. I'll get more leafy greens when I'm out later.

"That med you described it's for parasites, so no it isnt a bacterial med." I don't understand what you mean by this Tweety. I just wrote what was on the package. You saying you think whatever they have isn't bacterial?

This new med I just bought is for Fungus and Ectoparasite.....I'll just keep up the feeding of veggies and this med. Unfortunitely I won't know what cured them but at this moment I don't care. I don't want to lose my big boys.

Anymore thoughts on this?

The link you sent me before Wilder didn't work so I just broke it down and went in and this article is amazingly important and informative.

Thanks so much. I thought with the rehoming of my turtles all the veggies and things I knew about feeding were null and void. But wow thank you for re-opening my eyes. This is a passion of mine to find new info for my tank or dog to keep everyone healthy and provide for them the best 'natural, diets I can. You've helped me a lot with this article....

Now, what do you know about raw diets for dogs, ha ha ha.

Life, there's so much to learn.

This is a picture of the second cat. This is as far as the 'illness' has progressed in him. You can see how his lovely spots are white, and his fins too. And his head, very creepy. But in good spirits and no changes in bahavior.
nov13015.jpg

These two pics are from today, with the flash he looks much lighter but in real light he is actually getting back to a nice brown colour.

This last photo is pretty dark but very clear. You can see a lot of strange colours and reflections from his skin.

Okay last photo, I love photos and this camera is sick. Ha ha ha ha.

So the fish are getting in better condition.

Well, things seem to change quickly from day to day. I started writing this post, the contents under the photos, with the optimism I've been feeling the last few days. But now this morning Cat #1 has seemed to have lost pigment again. I have 3 photos for you...YES, I love taking fotos of my fishes. 3rd photo is just cute.

I've decided to refer to the cats as #1 and #2. #1 is the one who got the 'illness' first and the worst. And is also the lower, beta fish. Talking in 'dog' terms here. #2 is the Alpha cat.

Cat #2, doing so-so. Has not progressed beyond this point of discolouration.

This is cat #1 today, and Ike. Ike is my 'special' angel. His body is all tweeked out of shape and when I was buying angels from a woman I said that I didn't want him cause he was 'not good' so she threw him on the street. I ran and grabbed him and said I'd buy him. Another lady there said you can't charge her for that fish but give her another one. All in Chinese of course. So I brought him home.

I will continue with the super vegie diet as layed out in the article and stop the meds and see what happens. I'm just hoping that cat #1 regains he's lovely spots. And that cat #2 looses the white fins and head area. Every moment of the day I'm just happy to see them still there. Cat one is whiter today, darn it. Crap.

Do fish change their tones from lights-on to lights-off? I mean, when the lights are off will they change their deepness of colour and look washed out?

I'll turn on the lights and see if his pigment changes, or if we are taking another nose-dive into whiteness.
