Another Noobie With A New Tank

It sounds to me like the original tank filter has never cycled to zero ammonia, right? You are close, but not quite there. Nitrites and nitrates are looking pretty good. I would think you would simply need to treat that tank as a "fish in cycle" and be patient.

Also, have you tested your source tap water for ammonia? My tap water is 0.25 ppm ammonia. If you have ammonia in your tap water and do a lot of water changes, then you won't get zero ammonia!

Are you saying that its a under gravel or a internal filter, either way if the gravel or filter media has dried out and there is no chance of any beneficial bacteria being present then a good clean won't hurt.

Keith.

Internal filter, gave the filter a good squeeze in used tank water and loads of muck came being 2 month old.

never thought of that only tested ph. ill test the water when i get a chance, i did ask the LFS and they said i can buy something(liqued/power) to lower it it, they talking rubbish?

any idea on the net/gravel problem?

Stay away from buying ph up/down products, the key to a good pH is a stable one.
As for your gravel(subtrate) and net(fish) you can give them a good clean if you wish.

Keith.

You have a neutral pH, a lot of fishkeepers would love that in there tanks.
Prime by seachem will take care of that problem(0.25ppm ammonia).
