Hello all!

I have been bitten by the betta bug again. :)

When I was a kid many many moons ago I would frequently walk to our local Aquarium store.
I had a community tank and was especially fond of fancy guppies.

The lady that ran the Aquariumn store was very kind to me. She didn't mind my coming to
look at the fish like I was watching TV. When I made a purchase if I was a few pennies short
she would tell me to give it to her next time. I did just that too.

Then I was introduced to bettas. My family visited my dad's cousin and he had a fish room.
I was in awe of this room. It was beautiful. In one tank was a male betta blowing a nest.
I was hooked and purchased a small 5 gallon tank.
I was very excited to add a betta to my home. If memory serves me right he was a turquoise blue.

I grew up, married, had a family, and for 15 years I showed and bred Persian cats.
I am retired from that hobby and still share my home with 6 Persians.

So making this long story longer I started getting interested in bettas again.
So I searched for betta breeders on the web.
Much to my surprise I found there are bettas in all kinds of colors and patterns as well as type.
I feel like a kid in a candy store.
My cat background has taught me to calm down and do my research first.

So here I am learning what's new in the Aquarium world.

Welcome to the family! From NY I assume by the NY in your handle?

:hi: to the forum and back to Bettas :D

You're welcome.

Any ideas yet on what you fancy getting?

Yes! I do like the half moons.I was so tempted by e-bay the other day.
There was a aqua blue DTHM.
He was a beauty. I'm not set up yet so I will have to wait a bit.
I have already discovered what breeders stock I like and don't like.

I am partial to the standard blues, greens and reds. Oh wait a minute last week I saw a blue/yellow bi-color.
Now he was gorgeous! See I said kid in candy store! LOL

The breeders I have liked are Betta boys and this gal on ebay misemeraldeyes
Here is a link to a betta she has on e bay... web page

This is breeder had the Aqua blue I liked too. Here is a picture.

White whale I am an hour and 15 min car drive or
I would guess an hour/half train plus 15 min car drive to and from the train station.

I saw in a post you mention buying a betta in China town!
It's think it's easier for me to have one shipped then to go to the city.
Maybe I can go with my daughter one day and make a stop in China town. :)

Netty now don't encourage me. Oh maybe you should! I have to get a tank set up and soon.

At PETCO or elswhere, they are now selling HM, doubles, crowns, butterfly, cambodian, etc. for $12.99 or so. Rob (owner of WIN Tropical Chinatown) sells his for cheap - $6.00!

I was in my Petco and Walmart this week. The bettas are kept horribly. it's beyond sad.

I don't know how healthy they are??? If I just wanted a pet I would consider getting one of them.

I have my mind on possibly breeding the bettas. Then I should start with a look I like and good genes and health.
