We'll be on the move in August from North Yorkshire down to Reading (about 4/5 hrs)

I have a trigon 190 and two 15uk G tanks to move. I am planning on putting the media from the external fluval 305 and the small rena filter in a tub with the fluval 2+ running off the cigarette lighter in the car. Will this be enough to help keep the bacteria in the filters alive? I will also be putting all the gravel/substrate in mesh bags in the same tub.

The fish are; 6 dwarf gouramis, 4 ottos, 3 zipper loach, 4 albino cories, 1 dwarf chain loach, a pair of clown killies, and 18 celestial pearl danios.

Would it be best to bag the fish as another post suggested or have them in large containers with tank water? Is there anything I should add to the water to alleviate stress? Will I need heat packs?

I'm not sure how much tank water I will be able to transport as well, so when setting up the other end do I treat the tank as a new set up? Lots of small water changes and keep an eye out for ammonia/nitrite spikes? Slowly acclimatise the fish to the new water etc?

One more question...plants? Do I try and float them in a container or will they be okay wrapped in wet paper and sealed in plastic bags?

I think that's it for now.
Thanks in advance
K

I can't believe this is the third time I'm posting this link in less than an hour;

Sorry, I'm not awake yet, and just found that post! VERY HELPFUL THANK YOU.

But it doesn't say how long the bacteria can survive in the filter.
After reading that I'm going to try and take as much tank water as I can. we have a very high PH here and I seem to remember the PH where we are moving is quite abit lower (off to ask a friend to test their water for me)

Cheers.

They will easily survive several hours. You can always add a couple of drops of pure ammonia to the water in the bag you are transporting them in, the water will circulate a bit during transportation. The bacteria go dormant for a while before dying off, and they will be fine.

A couple of times I've shipped cycled filter media, it was in transit for 2 or 3 days. I add some frozen blodworms, which slowly deteriorate, creating ammonia. This worked out well.

That's brilliant Tolak, thanks again for the info. I've woken up a bit now.
Slightly off topic, I've just found galaxy rasbora fry in the tank!
