I am still keeping close watch on my 300l tank that the brace bar broke on. I have managed to stabalize the water stats after an ammonia spike, but I did loose 2 rams. Now one of my blue gourami's hasnt eaten since the accident (she is only about 18 months old :-(), no matter what foods I try her with, she is showing no interest in food at all. She is not flicking or rubbing, no signs of any marks or leisions, but she is not pooping (that I have seen) and is loosing weight rapidly!. I dont know whether to isolate her and see if I can just try her with her favorite food on her own so she can pick at it in her own time (she use to feed from my hand). The only problem is I dont have a filter for my spare tank at the mo I had to lent it to my nephew (bought a tank and goldfish!!! no filter) and he has not yet bought himself one!

Desperate for any help or advice, I dont want to loose any more fish from this tank.

Thanks in advance

Bad water quality can soon take it's toll on a fish.

If she lost weight and not going to the toilet it's because she not eating.

Soak her food in garlic juice to stimulate appetite.

Thanks Wilder I will try that. The odd thing is her colour (I wish my camera worked) she is very pale ble at the front and dark blue from her dorsal fin to her tail. Its almost like someone has grabbed her by the tail and dipped her in bleach!!

This the best pic I could get my camera only works for about 10 seconds! Does this colour mean she is very stressed? I have never seen a gourami with half and half colour before like this, I am getting really worried. She did eat one tiny bit of flake this morning. I have some food on order that contains garlic, I am hoping it will arrive today.

If she was stressed the whole body would look pale.
If the faded area near the tail look like bleaching beneath the skin she could have columnaris.
Does she flick and rub.

Can you issolate her and try a bacterial med?

No the fading is all at the front, the tail end is still bright vibrant blue, she does not flick or rub, there are no missing or lifted scales or any sign of any parasite. No rot or fungus anywhere, all fins are totally intact. Her gills are normal she does not gasp at the surface and her eyes are bright and clear she also swims about totally normal, not hiding away or laying on the bottom she is just not eating and this really odd colouration? I am totally stumped! I have searched and searched the net and cannot find any answers. I can seperate her, but I have been dosing the tank she is already in with an antibacterial med (interpet) after the accident as a precaution as I dont know what else could have been realeased by the bang. I think this is one of those stange things I am going to just have to wait and see what happens.

Thanks for all your help

Bleaching beneath the skin can be columnaris.

Let me know how she goes on if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

Been to a LFS today (not the normal one I use) and they have suggested I use Myxazin (by waterlife)? not used it before but I suppose worth a go. I have got my spare filter back from my nephew, bit annoyed as it was supposed to be an emergancy and found he hadnt used it just shoved it in the garage so all the mature media is now useless!! Going to set up the tank later once the kids are in bed !!! yeah tonight ha ha. Will keep you updated on how she does, not overly hopeful myself but I will do my best, so fingers crossed.

Thanks again for all your help, your a star and Merry Christmas

At least you get your stuff back. I never do lol.
Good Luck.
Merry christmas to you aswell.

Good news, my gourami has the colour back in her whole body this morning! I bought some dried brine shrimp with garlic food off fleabay and it helped with her appitite, although she is not eating great, seems it could have been a bacterial infection of some sort. Still weird the colour loss on half of the body though!

Keep going with the med.
If anymore changes get back to the board.

Bleached out patches can be columnaris.

Still giving the meds, will give the full course. Fingers crossed.

Let me know how she get on if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

Arrrrrgggghhhh, she has lost colour again today!!! I dont get this at all. I have checked her all over with a magnifying glass, there is not a scale out of place, no marks, leisions or anything? no growths of anysort in or by her mouth. The colour fading is a direct straight line from dorsal fin down then to her head in one big patch not small patches. I cant start any more meds untill tomorrow (according to instructions). What do you think should I try another course of the Myxazin or try the interpet anti bac again? I havnt tried melafix on her yet, I dont know weather to give that a wirl.

Does sound like some sort of fungus maybe velvet, gourami seem to be susceptable to it, at fish shops they get whole consignments with it, I was told to turn the heat up to 82 gradually, add salt and maracide, do small water changes daily before adding meds. It usually works best if caught early, worth a go though. You may need to isolate the fish as this treatment maybe unsuitable for other fish in your tank. Really it should be in a hospital tank of some kind. di
