Another Betta Compatibilty Question

I have a 30g. tank (3 ft. wide) My question for stocking: (1) Male Betta, (2) 3 dwarf gouramis (3) Small corydoras - how many? (4) sand sifting snails.

Will this work?

Get rid of the gouramis. Bettas and gouramis are both in the Anabantoids family, and the betta will kill the gouramis. Up the cories to 6, and why not add 6 kuhli loaches?

Ok, no dwarf gouramis Regarding loaches, I'm under the impression they get very big so how would they possibly be happy in this small of a tank? And, how many sand sifting snails would you recommend, how what kind?

I just did some reading about kuhli loaches. Although they stay relatively small (as compared to other loaches), several sites state that the tank should be covered because they are little escape artists. My tank has not glass lid and I will not be buying one. So, those are out.

Assassin snals are awesome sifters, and they eat pest snails.
