Hi everyone... it's been a long time since I've been on here. I love the new look!
I wanted to start a thread here to just post progress pics of my tank. Here is how it looked when I started. The tank was thrust into my life with no knowledge of fishkeeping at all. No live plants, some driftwood, a clown loach, and a lot of algae.
So I ended up becoming interested and read through all kinds of forums, including this one. I learned the clown loach would be too big for my tank, so I brought him to a local fish store to hopefully be passed on to a better home. I drained the tank, cleaned it out, and armed with my new-found knowledge, started building a tank with a simple goal: live plants and small fish. Here's how it started:
LOL talk about sparse! What we have here is some Flourite substrate, an Aquaclear 50 filter, a 100watt Visitherm heater, and a Nutrifin CO2 system. The filter has no carbon and is set up with two sponge filters and a layer of polyfill between them.
Eventually I got to this, with some Harlequin Rasboras and a Goo Obo Gudgeon stowaway:
Eventually I returned the rasboras and went with Threadfin Rainbows, cherry shrimp and a few more Goo Obo gudgeons. The tank was looking great back then (about a year and a half ago):
Since then, I had done a couple rescapes but gradually just let the tank overgrow. The l.repens would extend to the top of the tank and lose all its leaves on the bottom. It seemed to act like a floating plant but was still rooted to the substrate somewhere down the line. I love the color of them but kinda wish I had kept the rotala instead, which tended to look nicer overall.
So as of now, I'm attempting another rescape. The inhabitants now are 4 Furcata Rainbows, 6 Crystal Red shrimp, 1 albino long-finned bristlenose pleco, 1 neon blue Endler, and an army of snails. Here are the current pics... I'm hoping to have more soon as my rescpe gets underway!
L.repens growing emersed! That's how overgrown it got. LOL
Some Crystal Red shrimp:
Here is the tank undergoing surgery. The whole left side is covered in java moss, it reaches over the water line.
And some new plants!
