i was just wondering, since it is a big no-no to keep Angels with Neons, it this true of other slim-bodied Tetras, like Glowlights?

=) i saw the most beautiful 'Calico' and 'Zebra' mutts at my LPS, and am dying to add at least one of the itty-bitty babies to the fifty.

edit: ... why is this here.

It really does depend on the size of the Tetras and your Angels, my pair happily devoured 3 Rummy Nosed Tetras and 3 Neon Tetras, however, they let 3 Neons live in their tank quite happily and they pay no attention to them what so ever. It is a mystery as to why they have done this but they have. Alot of people have success if you grow the fisheson together rather than introducing large Angels. My advice would be: if your smaller Tetras are important to you and you don't want them to be eaten then don't buy Angels or buy small Angels to grow on. If you don't mind losing the odd Tetra then you can buy the Angels, they may or may not harm the Tetras.

Good Luck

thanks :) all those extra posts confused me, i didn't think i'd get a reply!

the Tetras are about 3/4" long, the Angels maybe 1 1/4. my dad doesn't seem to care about the tank anymore, just stops it gurgling away and pours water in now and then, so basically i can have a free-for-all. meaning, the Tetras are mine. i am not a Tetra-freak, i'd much prefer having the Angels, so if they do eat the odd Tetra, well, they eat the odd Tetra :)

i guess i shall be invading this forum then, too, in a while. if that pair is still there; won't get any other, they were beautiful things!

Angels won't be able to manage any 3-4 inch fish only the odd 1 and at most 2 inch fish will be taken if any, you are going for the best method- Young Angels, Mature Tetras. So best of luck. :)

I would agree with Ryan, young Angels and old tetras is the way to go. Anything that goes into the tank when you lift the lid with Angels = FOOD!

My Angels, and the pair before them, lived with neons and cardinals as well as one-lined pencilfish and fry without attacking them, becuase they were there first or because the Angels were young. Now my angels are older, they leave the neons alone, yet persecute new apistos and even shrimps :)

One way of knowing if the fish are on the menu is to watch the Angels behaviour. If they dart forwards at them, with the pec fins tucked under, its a 'get out of my face' move, if, on the other hand, they lean sideways and swipe in a circular motion with all fins sticking out, they mean to kill!

Good luck,

Ken

I have my angels with 2 serpea and 2 black skirt tetras...with no problems...however, if I put in fry or ghost shrimps its a totally different story.... the moral, bigger tetras no eat...small fish lunch!

i'v got 4 neons and 3 glowligts with my Angels, and they're just fine, the angel don't even care that they're there, lol
