Angels, Cardinals, German Rams? Yay Or Nay?

Fancy this as a new stocking as i have gone off my currernt stock totaly, gouramis just hide and guppys and rainbow fish just fly all over all of the time and id prefer somethimng more organised so to speak

I know angels arnt super active but you cant keep them with neons so whats about cardinals as they are bigger?
I love the german rams? would i be able to keep them or are they very PH specific?

Depends on angels with neons, as i keep two adult angels with shrimp and they arent an issue at all. Have also done it in the past with other angels with no issues. Cardinals are IMO more attractive than neons.

Harlequin Rasbora are super shoalers IME, love them. If you fancy something a little bigger Rummynose Tetras i generally class as the best shoaling tetra, stunning colouration too.

Rams i've found to be finicky fish. I had GBR's a couple of years ago, two pairs at two different times and lost them both after a month or so of each pair. Yet everything else in my tank has always been fine. So i guess they are quite specific with water parameters.

2 Angels with a shoal of rummynose with some pygmy corys would look ace, especially in your planted tank

As a counter point I live in scotland and ive been keeping fish 8 months or so and my 2 GBR are 6 months old I was led to beleive the prefer softer water so this could be why? Whats the water like where you are Andy-lee ?

Shrimp? So you think cardinals will be a safer option? and as you say the do look better imo also i quite like rasbora's and rummy nose tetras to but i dont think they stand out as much as cardinals and neons do?!? mind saying that white angels with rummy noses may look cool?

hmmm rams can be tricky then, i just wanted a nice pair for a 2nd in line center peice if you get me? any other suggestions?

Sorry im a little bit of a need with terms still whats the differance between hard and soft water? they are beautiful fish and would to keep them just dont want them to be a waste.

We're inquiring about the pH of your tank water. GBRs are a bit more delicate and prefer acidic water, around the pH range of 6.5ish. If you try to keep them in water that is high in alkalinity, you'd be sure to lose them.

As an aside, Bolivian Rams are also quite beautiful and much more hardy, especially when it comes to alkaline water (from LOTS of research, no personal experience however).

Ahh right i see, i will check my ph in the morning and try give a acurate as i can reading. just googled Bolivian rams and your not lieing they would do as a defonate substitue

Just need to do some deciding now depending f the feed back i get back about angels and a sutable schoaling fish
