Hi, basically I was thinking of stocking around 6 angels and 1 oscar in a standard 180g tank.

Would this be possible? The oscar would be small (to start with) whilst I would buy the angels at around 15cm each, would this even it up whilst they 'fight' for their territorys (sp?) or would it just be a case of the tables turning when the oscar gets bigger?

thanks

there is no way u can put angels and oscars together angels will be killed as soon as the oscar will reach 4" -6"

Personaly i would not even thing of puting these two types of fish together!!!!

The angels are nothing compaired to an bully like the Oscar....

One or the other!!!!

Coming from a previous oscar owner, pick the angels. Although oscars are lovely to look at and have great personalities, there's not much you can put in with them (and even if there are you have to consider the mess and filtration and extra work involved), and at least with angels you can have some shoals of tetras or other small/medium fish, and your tank will be put to good use ;)

I miss my old oscar tonnes, but I do love my hubby's angels too - and they're stunning in a big tank with other fish, really eyecatching :)

I don't see it being possible even in a 180g tank..

Even if you were to buy a 1'' oscar and get 4'' angels... I still think when the oscar gets big enough it is going to try to kill the angels.

I have an oscar I got at the huge size of one inch. A 1" oscar tears into dime to nickel size angels, and will annoy adults to no end. I tried putting him in a 55 gallon when small, along with assorted size angels, it lasted a couple of days before I knew I needed a better plan.

He went in a 20, a 30, and now a 72. At 4" he would eat pea size angel culls like nothing, he's somewhwere around 8" now, and I'm sure he would take out an adult angel without a problem. Nickel size culls go in one bite, he spits marble size gravel at his "pal", a 15" common plec, just to get him to play a little chase.

i would go for oscars,

things u can put with oscars,

severums, firemouths, blue acaras, parrots, jack dempseys.

all of them are lovely coloured

Having dedicated a tank to an oscar, I would go with angels..

Personally I just don't think oscars are that exciting.. mine was basically just an eating machine..

If you get angels you would be able to get more fish, and have a variety..

With oscars you're limited to other large cichlids.

This is why I love large cichlids... so much personality!!

Depending on the size of the tank, I would be careful putting the sevs, parrots, or jds with the Oscar. Oscars can be much more timid than all three of these species and you might have an issue of a 8" JD bullying a 14" oscar.... Plus usually people will get 2 or 3 sevs or parrots and this is a gang attack just waiting to happen. They will all peck and harrass the biggere, slower moving Oscar. But then again, if you find more docile fish of these species (good luck...) then it could possibly work.

Of course, by the book, you should be technically able to add any of those cichlids. But we all know what cichlids are like, unpredictable, moody, some the opposite - timid and easily bullied. No-one knows how they'll get along til they try it - and that can be a big problem if you end up stuck with an oscar who wont accept anything in the tank, or a JD who tears your oscar to bits.

Which is why I suggested choosing angels out of the two. Compared to the big cichlids, angels are pussycats - and get along with lots of different types of fish, making stocking a tank a much easier and pleasant passtime! None of the stress and hair-pulling involved with oscar/big cichlid keeping.

God knows how many posts I made here when I had my oscar. What can go in with it, what wont it fight with, anything else I can add etc etc etc. Not had to ask anything about angels...

I currently have a small oscar whom i've introduced into my tank after the already established species in there (which i've now cut down to two). At the moment there are 2 cats in with him that are about 5" all told and a Senegal Bichir who's about 8-9" and a beast so i know he won't be bothered when the Oscar gets larger, plus bichirs have their own unique protection. The cats may eventually have to be moved but they're pretty much faster than speeding bullets so i don't think the oscar would ever catch them anyway. I'll keep you updated anyway.

I used to have a couple of Oscars a year or so ago which grew from 2-3" to 8-9" within about 8 months so just make sure you have the room and time for them and you'll eventually be able to stroke them and hand feed them just as i was able to do. They're one of the best fish around, after all which other fish can you stroke and teach tricks?

More of a real "pet" than just a fish. Good luck with it all mate! :good: :D

yummy yummy yummy angels for dinner :p

yeah as everyone else has said, don't do it! :D
