im wondering if you can put angelfish and discus together. my dream tank would be a 220 with angels and discus and blue and golden german rams. the question is can you do that? if you can how many off each? what a bought a male betta too? im probaly just dreaming but it doesnt hurt to ask. or what would you suggest?
thanks

I wouldn't, but in that size of tank it may work out. I found the angels far too aggressive and fast feeding for my own discus when I tried it a while back. In the end I had to remove the angels. IMO a tank full of discus, rams and a huge school of tetras would be more attractive than including angels.

IMO a male betta is far better suited to a smaller tank, plus I would expect the angels to hassle it.

i havepair of blue and gold rams and apistogrammas with my discus and they get along fine and all seem to have their own setion of tank. i`ve placed 2 small angels temporally with them while i`m sorting out my other tank, they seem ok but are already beating my discus at feeding time and they seem to always be invading their space so i will probably place them back in their tank when its ready. I agree with Kev-Kb they look best with a large shoal of tetras, sometimes less is more if you know what i mean.
Angel

thats a good idea w the tertas what kind would go best. what if you put the angels in last and feed them at a different end of the tank or is that me still dreaming?

I would eliminate the angels all together. Is this a 200 Gallon or Litre? If gallon then add 11-16 discus and a huge shoal (70-200) of cardinals or neons. You could also add probably about 20 rams but that'd be pointless, too small and dont group.

In a 200 litre I would add 2 discus with maybe 10 cardinals or neons. Nothing else

Could easily keep more then two discus in a 200litre imo.

I know someone who owns a 200 gallon tank with loads of Discus and Angels. He has more angels then Discus although i'm not sure if this is a great idea. If you wanted try a ratio of 1 angel to 3 discus that way there will be less food gobbled up by the Angels. You could also keep the rams, they would be fine. A male Betta wouldn't work though. Angels tend to be a litle agressive to fish with long fins :(

Not a good idea. If it's a 200 litre (50 gallon) then you could add about 5 Discus this way agression is spread well through-out the tank. BTW IMO 11-16 Discus 200 cardinals and 20 ram would be WAY to much for a 200g. If you wanted to have a breeding pair of Discus put about 9 into the 50g, wait till' you get a pair and sell the rest back to the store. Most people don't recommend anything but the pair inself in a breeding tank, at most a small shoal of corys or tetras but thats all.

i used to agree with angels bing more aggressive at feeding time and nick all of the food and the discus getting the scrap food, but since ive been feeding them pure beefheat the discus are nearly biting my hand of to get it first, its kinda role reversel now i feel sorry for the angels.

Even that isn't good to do. Beefheart is very fatty and just like fatty foods in humans, it can cause health problems.

sorry the tank would be a 200 gallon or bigger. but now im getting confused. so angels are a maybe as long as there is more discus then angels. but have a back up in case they dont get along.

Maybe after you have finished sorting out how nice your tanks look you could focus on the fish you keep. Coldwater and tropical doesnt go, clown loaches need bigger groups and as you say those tanks are only 8" deep the gouramis and bala sharks are to big for them. male and female better wont mix long term abd the tetras will nip at there fins

Find me some proper evidense of that please. Many breeders use it as a staple and have no problems.Unless the beefheart was very poor qaulity it does not do harm. Beefheart promotes growth the most out of all foods :good:

The thing with Angels and Discus is that so many people have diffrent opinions, it pretty much comes down to you think is right and are willing to do. I'll get you some information on Beefheart right now.
