This was taken out of a book, it was the most ready information I have, although it's only a snippet. If your not satisfied try looking for some articles on-line.

Discus Fish by Thomas A Giovanetti and Oliver Lucanus "It is important that beef heart be only part of the Discus diet. Using beef heart as the only food for your fish can cause serious health problems, including intestinal blockage. Ideally, this food is fed two days a week."

Found more. This was taken off the forum and is quoting Tolak on Beef heart feeding.

"Overfeeding has been implicated in problems with internal organs. It is one of the best conditioning foods around, when used properly."\

Search the word Beef Heart on the forum, quite a bit will come up, i'm not sure if alot of it has anything to do with the health problems it can cause if fed too much I didn't look through it all but if you are still not sure try it and see.

i didnt say only beef heart, they get a mixture of everything

As with people variety is good in feeding your fish. Most dry foods make an attempt to add the necisary vitamins and minerals. Most frozen foods do not. For this reason flake or pellet food should be a large part of their diet. Don T.

I know it can cause harm ;) , but still he did not say he fed it all the time and secondly he said it was pure.

the hubby would like to know if he could put a knife fish in the tank. someone please say no!! they kinda freak me out.

LIke a real knife such as one you cut food with and have it sticking up in the gravel? Or a plastic shaped toy knife?

Either way I highly dont recommend this as fast moving fish would probably cut themselves on it.

no silly a black knife ghost fish they are weird to look at

who would put a real or plastic knife in a tank?!?!?!?!? i wouldnt recommend putting discus and a bgk together

yeah i remember seeing someone who had a bgk with their discus. i only would not recommend them as they can grow very big. but in a 220 gallon i guess they would be fine. was also wondering if their electiric currents would do anything to the discus. never had bgks before so dont know much about them but that is just what i thought

Never knew they were good tank mates  .A strange mix .O yeh about the beefheart in the latest pfk mag it's got about discus diets and the guy said about beefheart and how it's good to feed them and that he has never had any hard evidense given to him that beefheart does harm.Still it must as there are so many people who say it will.Still just like if you overfeed on bloodworm or any food etc that will be bad for discus.

i think a variety goes down well heres my discus' course for the week

monday - Tetra prima
tuesday - Flake and Tetra prima
wednesday - Often LIVE bloodworm (depending if LFS has any)
thursday- Tetra prima
Friday - Frozen Discus Food
Saturday - Tetra prima
Sunday - Frozen bloodworm

i like to make a variety.

mine have tetra prima for breakfast, freeze dried brine shrimp/tubifix or diskusin for lunch and beefheart for dinner, every day, when they were smaller i gave them extra meal of beefheart, had no health problems(touch wood) Beefheart is their favorite its gone in seconds, they rip it out of my fingers before i can stick it on the glass
Angel

I feed mine 5 times a day.3 times with frozen and 2 parts with granules.
