i'm thinking of upgrading my goldfish to a bigger tank which would leave me with their present tank empty. it is 54x18x 24h inches.

i quite fancy a couple of angel fish and would like to use mopani/bogwood in the deco.

the 2foot depth makes it hard to work the bottom of the tank so i was thinking i could also put a pack of cories in there, which would mean a sand substrate. i believe cories need to be in a group of about 6 but i like an uneven number in my tank so would prob go either 5 or 7.

would these fish be suitable together and is the tank big enough that i would not be over stocked?

thanks guys :D
looks like the goldies will be going to at least a 7ft tank :)

Would love to see the goldies current tank and their next one!

Corys and Angelfish go great together!

Wow, sounds a great tank!

Depending on the other stocking, you could have a lot more Corys. A big school of Corys looks amazing!

I hope you do a journal when you have upgraded the goldies, this tank sounds like it will be a stunner!!!

Well, at 100 gallons, you could have two biggish schools.
Just make sure you have a sand substrate.

Also, make sure the angels are a proven pair or you will get trouble.

that's what kina puts me off the angels.
i had read some where that if you get them when they are young, even if it is two males they will bond and be ok when they reach adulthood.
plus i was kina hoping the tank would be big enough so that they could have their own space if they didn't.

i was hoping to buy young ones and watch them grow but if i've got to get a proven pair that means i would need to buy adults as i'm really not into this idea of buy 6 then get rid of 4. how can you be sure you are going to get a pair out of that 6, they could all be males aswell?

yes but with  theres a good chance theres one female and one male, if that doesnt happens you ight just have some bad luck.

i've had a bit of a look about on the internet to see about the cories, the ones that stand out so far for me are
trilineatus
julii
sterbai
leopardus (altho my water may be too soft for these)
paleatus
reticulatus
i also quite like
hastatus
habrosus
but am a bit worried these might be too wee. would the angels would eat them?
if i could have my pick i think i would go with 6x julii and 7x habrosus

Wouldn't think Hasbrosus too small.
Although Angels are cichlids so even young ones can be agressive. Just picked up four bitty things Friday, by Monday I have a bully already, in a four foot tank.

from the stats i found it says the hasbrosus only goes to an inch but i suppose they will be bulkier than the tetra.
i was only gona go for two angels in the four and a half foot tank (hopeing plenty of extra space will keep them more peaceable) but i suppose if you get a crabit grouch there is not much you can do to change that.
it's looking more and more like it all comes down to luck of the draw when it comes to angels, keeping fingers crossed and hopeing for the best.

I wouldn't chance it. That is just my opinion but I don't think its worth the risk.

Instead, if I was you, I would have a bigger school of the Julii's. You could have 9 safely :)
