What is the best type of food for an Angelfish? Is flake food okay, or is there something else that is better.

Mine love the frozen cichlid mix (defrosted of course). It's sometimes available at the lfs. I give mine flake mostly and frozen twice a week plus a few defrosted , deshelled peas once a fortnight. Also they like brineshrimp either live of defrosted but only once a week as live food is a laxative for fisies!
PS you can also get special cichlid flakes as angels are a cichlid.
Hope this gives your angels some variety.

Angels are omnivorous and will gladly accept most flake and frozen foods. Large angels may even accept live food (i found this out the hard way. let's just say I learned my lesson 4 neons later).

Yeah, they will eat anything.Mine don't descriminate, even my plants end up all eaten if I don't feed them.
And about those neons, yeah, that's true too_One thing to have in mind....if you put them together when the angels are small, they grow up with the tetras and won't bother them as adults,although....you never know.
Let's say angels are a type of fish you wil never see taking part of a hunger strike, they will eat just about anything :D

So true, mine are absolute pigs. They eat EVERYTHING.

List of what they've eaten at one time or another:
Tetramin Tropical Crisps
Tetramin Tropical Crumbles
Freeze Dried bloodworms
Lobster bites (Not meant for them)
live minnows (Not meant for them)
Shrimp Pellets
Hikari sinking Carnivore discs(The two flip them back and forth like a frisbee taking bites midwater)
Hikari Cichlid gold pellets
Spirulina Discs (Not meant for them)
Frozen brine(Not their favorite)(Not meant for them)
Regular Flake food
Cucumber, but only a little, only once (Not meant for them)

They haven't eaten the Tetras though, but will occasionally try to catch one.
