If this is even the right place to post about angelfish?!

I have 2 angelfish and I have a few questions about them....

Q1 How long roughly do angelfish live for?

Q2 What age do they stop growing?

Ive had my two angelfish for a year and when I got them they were the size of a 50p coin!!! So what age will they have been when I got them?!

Thank you in advance! :good:

Depends on a lot of factors, but angelfish should live somewhere between 5 and 10 years.
They never stop growing, but slow down enormously after a year or two.
If you bought them at 50p coin size, they were probably about 6 months old. How big are they now ?

Well when I got them they were both the same size, but now one is around 7cm and the other one is around 9cm. But as they are only in a smallish tank (64litres) They would not have thrived in growth - but dont worry I will be getting a lot bigger tank at christmas time!

Does this mean they will then grow bigger as they might grow to there surroundings when in a larger tank?!

Thank you for your reply!! :good:

Yup, a 64 litre tank will have stunted their growth to a certain extent.

If you are about to give them a bigger tank then, yes, they will have the potential to grow larger. There are so many factors involved though, it's impossible to say how much larger.

If they are happy with each other's company then that is a big plus for them. I'd say, just enjoy them, and give them a decent size environment to live in. THey will slowly continue to grow throughout their lifetime.
We'd love to see pics !!

Sorry about delay in reply!!

Yes sure ill defo put some pics up....hopefully 2nite!! :good:

when i was 9 years old and quite stupid, i kept a enormous, slow angel with some other cichlids. (a blood parrot, a convict and a jd). well, nobody liked the poor angel. (i'm sure they were just jealous) they nearly killed it.

luckily i had a 7 gallon close at hand so i put the poor angel in there. he spent months recovering, and before you knew it he was in perfect health. but he was lonely.

i went to my lfs and got him a friend, a marble angel. they loved each other - only for a few days when i discovered that the marble had transferred ich. so much for that. neither made it.

EDIT: some spelling

awwwwwk thats awful sad! So much hard work looking after it and its gone in a flash!! -_-

yeah, it really stinks. but i have to admit it is totally worth it while i had it. at that point i wasn't sure i wanted the angel to make a recovery, or just end the pain. i didn't really understand the concept of "DNR"

but if you want an angel, totally get it. it's worth every moment

i have 2 right now, they've been in my tank since january or something, and they are thriving. even though i don't have perfect water conditions, they can adjust to changes pretty well, i think. i believe i have a male and a female. they can actually get along with other fish pretty well. they are like the alpha male- and females of the tank. they're kept with giant danios that are 4 inches long, and panda barbs that are 3 inches long. nobody bugs them.
