Angelfish ?

Hi, sorry to hear that you are having trouble with fish stockists. Sometimes you will find that if you do water changes this will stimulate the fish to breed. This is because of the rainy season they get in the wild. Also if you try feeding the Angels something different to your usual food this may work. Not tried and tested but it may well work. I have a large "pair", whether they are m/f I'm yet to see. They do a lot of chasing about but nothing else.

Wel, im coverd on w/c, for the once a week thing. So if they needed to be stimulated, its right there.

Angels vary in temperament, very similar to dogs from the same litter having varying personalities. It is quite possible for two to be male, female, or one of each, and not show aggression or pairing behavior. I've had this happen numerous times, plenty of folks wish they had two compatible angels as you have.

I'm nearly certain you've read this over, I can't count how many times I've posted the link; http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breedi...%20seasons.html

There are some easier ways to accomplish some of the things in that article. One thing I regularly do with angels & corys to induce spawning is not do water changes for two weeks, using a piece of egg crate for the top, and running a fan on the surface to increase evaporation. This increases hardness & TDS. I drop the tank temperature with angels, raise it with corys. I also feed lightly, skipping a day or even two in a row, mainly flake, a little frozen bloodworm once weekly for corys

I then do a water change with water a couple of degrees cooler, leaving the water level low a couple of inches. I also start feeding heavier, and increasing filter flow. They get live blackworms, frozen brine shrimp, and a little frozen bloodworms. The angels get the tank temperature raised, I drop it for corys.

There is a reason for leaving the water low a couple of inches. Once daily add 1/2" to 1" of straight cold water, while feeding. This gets blasted in full tilt with a hose. This gets pairs that I am resting spawning again, and the corys will plaster the sides of the tank with eggs.

Be aware that if you do this with the angels you may not get a pair, you may just get aggressive angels. You should try contacting a local club to try to find some local angel breeders, here's another link; http://fins.actwin.com/dir/clubs.php?c=1&r=27

Thanks Tolak. I might look into the whole procedure. But i definatley want to breed my Dalmation one, he/she could melt a heart of stone.

I would say the problem is their diet. Flake food is pretty low in nutrition and although it will keep fish alive it doesn't do much for building them up physically. You need to add some frozen meat foods to their diet. Raw prawn that you buy from a fishing shop or even for human consumption can be kept frozen. Each day take one and defrost it. Remove the shell and then cut it up into little pieces and offer it to the fish. All the fish can eat it. Feed them as much as they can eat and then remove any uneaten food.
Frozen bloodworms, (the red chirominid midge larvae from any petshop) is another good food for bringing them into condition. Mosquitoe larvae work well too.
They will need a meat food at least once a day to build them up. Most frozen foods will cause the water quality to deteriorate quicker than flake foods so monitor the water quality and do more water changes if the nitrates go up.

You could try lowering the PH but it shouldn't be a problem if the fish are locally bred stock.

Once i get osme more money, i'll look into some Mosquito Larvae. I do feed mine Brine Shrimp once in a while. They are locally bred stock. ALso, my freind, there is no fish safe way on Gods green earth to lower that ph. I've tried it all. Bog wood, Peat Moss, Chemicals, you name it, i've tried it. Nothing works.

if the PH won't drop don't worry about it because the angels will be fine due to being local bred.
Mozzie larvae can be grown at home. You should accidentally leave a bucket of water outside under a tree. Put a couple of lettuce leaves in it, or any sort of non toxic plant matter. Then leave it until you see the little black wrigglers on the surface. Scoop them out with a fine mesh net, rinse under tap water for a moment and then feed to the fish.
*NB* it is illegal to culture mozzies in some areas

I did a big water change to prepare for the 2 week wait of evaporation( Im following Tolaks advice). But, is it okay, to leave the other fish in with the angels? Also, my Stunningly Beautiful Dalmation angelfish is sick, please check out the Emergency sections " Help!" to find out about it.

Hey. I have 2 angelfish in a 30 g tank. I've had them in this tank together for probably 4-5 months. They are both adults ( very large angelfish). But, they have not paired opff. Why is this? I owuld assume that if they were both males, they would fight to the death, correct? And if they were a male/female group, they would have paired off, and if they were female /female, they would be like they are, or fought. So, how can i sex them? I know itsd quite hard, but is there any reliable way? Please help! Pics are Avalible if needed.
Hello, ive kept Angel fish for some years now and to let you know that sexing is only more visible when in breeding condition or once pairing has been achieved. Angel fish live in the wild within shoals not in pairs. easiest way to get a pair to try and breed them is to ideally from begining get six or so young fish and as they grow pairs form. you could try adding some more angels but you may find that they may not be accepted straight the way especially if they are alot smaller. if you are lucky to get a pair to form and then spawn itsvery difficult to get the eggs to hatch because some tank bread angels aint very good at looking after the eggs sometimes they get eat them before they hatch ive had a few pairs do that in fact its happened to me more times than being sucessful. male angelfish will co and live together not fight to death such as fighting fish but raring a young shoal from small of around six tend to live together well there will be a peking order though with i more dominant fish or dominant pair especially if they attempt to breed. anyhow im babbling
