i didn't think about getting an angelfish till recently. i am planning on getting an african butterfly fish in my 15 gallon tank. it's 12x12x24. i also wanted to get a group of cories. i didnt think about getting an angelfish. would this be possible at all? just thinking about it...

No the tank is too small. If I remember correctly it is 20-30 gallons min for the first fish, then 10 gallons for each additional angelfish. I also think your tank has to be a certain hight, cuz they can reach 12" in hight when fully mature.

Yup, you'll need at least an 18" high tank for angels.

Not tall enough (I don't think.)

Not enough volume. You're looking at 30g or so for a pair.

I actually have 2 in 15g myself, but that's because I wanted to get very nice ones and I spotted them. They are also very small and they're going into a 34g 23" tall tank at christmas, so they'll be in a tall tank waaaaaaay before they need it.

i would actually disagree with the 10g per additional angel. i dont think its that much. that would be around 40g for a pair.

So is the 18" high a deffinate rule for all angels? That means if I were to get a rio 180 (40g tank) I STILL wouldnt have the room for angels? *Scared To Tell The Miss's*

I have (baby/juvenile) pair in 15g 12" high atm. But they are getting a Juwel lido 120 at christmas so they are fine.

Maybe you could get a Lido or an Aqua One Tank, Aqua One's tanks are generally like all 70cm high!

Scrap that, worked out that the rio 180 is 20" high, enough for 3/4 angels maybe :)
