I have had 5 adult angels in my cycled and stable 46 gallon for 2 weeks now. They have settled in niely and eat like monsters. I feed them Frozen foor only. Waterchanges with python every 5-7 days, and all is well.

I noticed that they always stay together and not away from the group. This is not nessacarily what I want. I wanted to know what I could do to help induce pairing behavior. I have 3 caves in there, a bunch of plastic, and some real plants.

Thanks

They wont use the caves to spawn ... they need flat walls or leaves. Slate or amazon swords would be ideal.

Getting a pair is a waiting game. Give them a month .... if nothing has happened by them try separating half of the group and see what happens. Give it 2 weeks, and if nothing has happened, reintroduce them back together.

Feeding them live foods might work also with large 50% water changes once a week. Use slightly cooler water and heat the tank up slowly over a few days.

If non of the above works then you got weird fish Lol.

angel's prefure amazon swords...at least...mine did... and are you sure you got male and female? :p :)

I have many flat sufaces int here. I want them to pair so I can move them to the spawn tank. I have 5 adult and 1 juvy. I am pretty sure the odds are with me that I have a male and female. I know that I'm being somewhat impatient, but 2 weeks and nothing at all is bit bit strange.

I have 2 fish that MAY be geting acuainted(sp sorry). Is it possible for pair and dominance etc. can heppen without any fighting whatsoever? They all stay together in a shoal(look at schoaling and schooling thread. Thanks to that author :) ). Again, the 2 fish SEEM to hang out alone a little bit. It is the biggest fish and another from the group. Maybe biggey is a boy? Most of the time though theyre in the group. Again, ZERO fighting is going on(I should want this i suppose  )

Geez, 2 weeks & you want them to breed? They hardly know each other!

It can happen in two weeks, or it can take several months. Around a year ago I sold some dollar size silvers & golds to one of the better lfs. They spawned in their tank in less than 2 weeks. On the other hand, I have four 18 month old koi angels that have been in a 29 for 6 months with a known female dark marble without pairing. I started with five, one was getting pretty beaten up, and got put in a 55 with some larger angels. That one paired with a gold, and spawned a couple weeks ago. I just pulled a spawn tonight, their second. The angels in the 29 have yet to do anything, brokeback koi or something. There is another pair forming in the same 55, a silver & a gold veil, the silver is almost a super veil, both siblings from one of my earlier spawns. The koi are right next to them, they can watch & learn, but I guess they are slow learners.

Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason for pairing & spawning. Water changes with water a couple of degrees cooler, water changes with water from the tank of actively spawning pairs, increasing feeding & doing water changes daily, withholding food, letting the water evaporate & topping off to increase hardness, then doing water changes with cooler water & feeding like crazy are all things that I have tried with these koi. You may want to try some of these, they've worked for my other pairs.

As a last resort, this is what I'm trying; http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breedi...%20seasons.html

Today was day 1, I've been meaning to get around to trying this, but I've been busy over the summer, it's tough hiding in the basement when the weather is nice. I've been running a nice low corner box filter the last 6 weeks, this will still operate when the tank is only 25% full. Something tells me this is going to be a nasty looking tank in a couple of weeks, I'll try to post some pics.
