I'm in the process of setting up a brand new 55 gallon tank. I'm midcycle using the fishless cycle that I've read from this site and several others, and since the cycle will be over soon I'm trying to decide what I'd like to put in it when it's done. I've decided that I definitely want angelfish. All the information that I've read has indicated that a 55 gallon tank could house about 6 angels, but I don't really want that many. Also, all the information I've read has said that they like to be in groups of three or more. So I'm planning on buying a pair of dark marble angels and a pair of DD black angels. So now, I'm wondering what I could put in there with them without problems of aggression, except maybe during breeding time when I can seperate them. I'd like something colorful, so I'm thinking maybe something like marigold swordtails. I'd also like a small group of schooling fish of some kind, I know neons aren't a good choice in this case because they are the natural food of angels, so any recommendation there would be helpful, again if it's a colorful fish I'd be happiest (maybe moons or platies?). I don't want to go over the load of the aquarium, but I would like to have a lively and enjoyable to watch setup. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You would want to avoid anything that looks "finny" like an angel. If it looks like an angel it will be trated like one aggression wise. Platys work out well with angels, and come in a variety of colors. A group of corys for the bottom would help fill out the bottom of the tank.

tankmates for angel fish hmmmmmm....it depends really, you could put some dither fish in such as some sort of large tetra.......congo tetras, emperor tetras or diamond tetras would be nice....platies or swordtails would work well, but I think larger tetras would work the best because of similar soft acidic water requirements.....or if you're an expert get some Uarus and then I will give you mad fish props cuz i'm drunk and posting and having a good ol time

Ok, so this is what I've come up with as what I think would be a nice combination. I'm sure this is gonna be pretty close to the full load a 55 gallon can hold, but I'd like to know for sure. So what do you think about this combination?

4 Angelfish (2 dark marble, 2 DD black)
2 Bolivian Rams (1 male, 1 female)
6 Congo Tetra's (if I can have my lfs order them)
6 Bandit or Panda Cories (depending on what's easier to find)

Do you think that's too much, just about right, or could I fit even a few more?

ok anything works as long as you stay away from fin nibblers like large barbs or barbs at all ok 4angles 2 tetras 3 neon swords and or any outher kind of swords 2corys and maybe a pleco thant sould be enuf to think about
