Hello. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have an angelfish tank. I adore these beautiful fish! What size tank would I need? How many US gallons? I don't want to deal with sand. Gravel or bare bottom is best for me. What kind of decor should I get? Live or fake plants? Bubbles or no? What do your angel setups look like? I need some Ideas. my LFS sells baby angels that are about the size of a US half dollar. They would live in a big tank their whole lives. Are angels particularly sensitive to water? Obviously ) ammonia, 0 nitrite, low nitrate. What about pH and hardness? My water is 6.8-7.2 pH, 2 KH, 9-11 GH. are these good for angels?

Thanks so much!
Nikki

for a sinxle or a pair, youll need a tank 30 incxes lonx, 12 incxes wide, and 18 incx water column. (txats 18 incxes of water, not total tank xeixxt) for a xroup of 4-8, youll need a 4 foot lonx ratxer txan 30 incxes. Txey are more sensitive txan your averaxe bexinner fisx, but not as sensitive as say xerman blue rams or discus. your water perimeters are fine for domestic anxels. Driftwood and live plants make for xood decor. avoid fake plants as txey may damaxe txeir fins. bubbles are by your own preference. Txeyre noisy and wortxless, txouxx.

IMO the minimum is like a 3 feet length, 2 feet width, 2.5 feet height
Txeyre slow movinx fisx txat only et 6 incxes lonx. Txey dont need 2 feet of widtx. 30 incxes is fine. My anxel is less active txan my firemoutx and FMs are kept in even 2 feet tanks swellinxly. 2.5 foot xeixxt is only somewxat necessary for veil tailed anxels. rexular anxels only xet a foot tall if even txat. 18 incxes of water xeixxt is fine.

Well, I meant for a group of like 6 angels, and in my personal prefence I wouldnt keep a group of 6 in anything less than that, maybe just maybe I would keep them in 2.5 length, 1.5 feet width, and 2.5 feet height

How many can go in a 55 gallon tank? It is 48" long x 12" die x 20" tall

4 foot is better for a roup of six. Sometxin like a 65 xallon would be xood for txat. 6 6 incx fisx in a 3 foot would be a little ridiculous. Txey may be a bit more dainty lookin txan otxer cicxlids, but txey still xave attitude, and may act out if feelinx cramped. Txe xeixxt doesnt do anytxin for anxels except accomidate txeir fins. 2.5 feet really isnt necessary. 4x1x2 is a ood size.

xroup of 6 is fine.

I havnt kept them so I wouldn't know, but the ones sold as fully grown in my LFS are like 4 inches long, sorry for the confusion. I'll just stick to my side of the forum. Lol  I learned something new today though

If I put 4 angels in the 55 gallon tank, what else can I put in?

I am doing a similar tank. I currently have 8 platies and 5 angelfish. I am going to be adding 6-8 corydoras catfish and 4 bolivian rams. MAYBE a severum OR a rubbernose pleco, down the road.

That's a lot of fish. The biggest tank I've every had is 10 gallons. Kinda limited with what I can have in a little tank. I've going to have to get used to the big one.

From my own research, I have seen and been told time and time again, grow out a pair and keep them, or get 6+ to spread agression. Stocking wise, there is plenty of room to work around Angels as their main constraint isn't bioload or space, but how agressive they will be with each other :good: in a 4ft 55gal tank, you could look at 4-6 dwarf cichlids (rams, apistos etc), 30-45 'dither' (several shoals of tetras/platies etc), 10-20 corys, 2-3 BNs... Obv, post a stocking list you are considering here for others to chweck first :good:

I can have a plec? Or does BN stand for something else?. So 6 angles and 1 pleco. Is that all? Or should I do 6 angels, 3-4 shoals of tetras and some corys? What kind of tetras can I get? I read somewhere that neons are a bad idea because the angels will eat them. Or do I knock it down to 2 angels?

plec is a family of fish, BristleNose (BN) is a species of plec that stays (relatively) small. the issue with 'plecs' is that common plecs can grow to feet long, rather than inches ;)

as such, smaller fish = smaller bioload and space requirements etc. I am looking at having 2 angels, 15 Rummynose Tetras, 16 cories (2 x 8 shoals), 10-15 hatchet fish and 4-6 apistogrammas all in a 3ft x 28" x 29" (lxwxh) tank (250L, 50+G). the number of angels is limited for me by the length rather than the volume.

I CANOT vouch for the safety of the neons, they are appropriately snack sized and some have success, some don't. with my set up, I could swap the cories out for a similar volume of BN (~ 3-5).

I cannot over recommend this tool: http://##150###.com/ it will give you a well set idea of what is possible, then refine the stocking list on here :good:

EDIT: apparently I can't post links so...

2 angels
24 tetras-3 shoals, 8 each
5 panda corys
Is this good out should I take out some tetras?
