ok hi guys, iam a complete newbie to do with breeding and what not, i have a 40 gallon and my two angelfish have spawned on the filter intake, there is loads of eggs, as i say i dont know what iam doing when it comes to breeding and stuff, any tips or articles you guys could point me towards, i dont have an extra tank but i have one of those breeding nets.

any replies GREATLY appreciated :)

oh and btw, its a community tank, and the previous owner said they had spawned around 4 times before when she had them, help plz!!!

You can either divide the tank section where the eggs are or leave nature to takes it course.

If you don't divide the tank then chances are the eggs will get eaten or other fish will disturb the parents causing the parents to eat the eggs.

If you do divide the tank you make disturb the parents causing them to ignore the eggs or eat them.

If you don't have a grow out tank for any fry then I personally would just leave things as they are and see what happens.

ok m8, what about the net thing i have, you stick it on the side of the tank, are they worth using, what do you do with it.

thanks for the reply m8

I don't think it's worth using. I haven't bred angels myself, but from what I've read the parents will fan the eggs until they hatch and will then actively care for the fry.
They will also remove any eggs which are growing fungus, stopping the whole batch getting infected.

If the eggs and then fry don't have the parental care then they are unlikely to survive.
And obviously putting the parents into the netting with the eggs would stress them out.
Not only is that bad for the fish, but they're likely to reject their eggs if put under stress.

What you can do is remove the eggs and put them in a breeder net. Put an airstone directly under the net and let the stream of air "artificially fan" the eggs. Tolak will tell you more on how to do this. I am new to breeding angelfish but am gaining experience on this species. When I breed my other cichlids and hybrids I always remove the eggs and put them in a seprate hatching tank. I dose the tank is meth blue and keep it at a temp of about 82 degrees. Once the fry hatch I carefully shake the fry off the slate or pvc pipe and remove the object. I then in 1 week do a water change to get rid of the meth blue.

AH thanks for the reply guys, you guys rock, thats why i love this forum :)

ah so that is what they are doing fanning them, i was wandering why they kept goin up to em and being wiered :)

thanks guys, guess ill just hope for the best, hopefully they will make a sucess this time, they have previously spawned 5 or 6 times with the previous owner, sop i guess they know what they are doing..

thanks again Lewis
