Hi Everyone,

I am new to this hobby and let me tell you... I don't plan on stopping. I have grown to appreciate this type of hobby. I never thought I'd be a fish person. Anyways, I was wondering about the Angelfish. When I started my 28 Gallon tank I had 2 Angelfish along with other fish but both the angel fish died on me. I guess this was because they were stressed out and I didn't cycle my tank the way I should have.

My question: for those of you who have angel fish... is it that hard to make sure they are healthy? are they really sensitive creatures? I am asking because I would like to own a couple of angel fish in the near future when I can afford another tank.

Thanks.

Nope, they aren't hard to tell if they are healthy and are pretty hardy. After all they did survive a cycle in my neighbors tank. Yes I did tell him to do a fishless cycle but he said it would take too long. The Angelfish profile on this website has some pretty good info. You might want to check that out. And you will be very happy that you didn't give up the hobby when you lost your fish initially. It can be frustrating at times, but very rewarding!

Angels are pretty easy to look after. VERY greedy eaters though. I love them too! Very graceful. Just watch what you put into the tank with them.

Mine aren't unfortunately, can't get them to eat much. Maybe be because they are little.

Make sure your tank is tall enough.

tank bred angels are very hardy fish nowadays but it is easy to tell when they aren't too happy - the most obvious sign is weak fins which begin to split or slightly rot away. They are also easy to feed and will take almost anything you throw at them and eventually may even take food from your hand......

Angelfish = teh roxorz. Just be weary of tank mates. I had mine in with some neons and he did fine but I wouldnt add anything I couldnt part with.

Thank you everyone who responded! I am sorry for the delayed response. I am currently getting ready for finals. Fun oh fun. Anyways, I will check out the Angel Fish forum ( I didn't see it on here). Thanks again.

I have angels and yes, they are easy to keep and tell if they are happy. Watch out for fin nippers! Mine co-habit with a breeding pair of Kribensis, four black skirt tetras, three unidentified minnows, a lemon tetra, and a bulldog plec. My tank is 30" tall, and the angels (or angel as it is now!) do very well. Had to sell all but one because they got too big for the tank! They grow like buggery!
