From what I've seen on nature programs and the internet those pics are pretty much it with regards to their natural habitat. Don't be put off by the murky water. When I put a big lump of wood into my tank the water looked like tea. I though it would look awful but it actually looked incredibly nice! The fish colours came out wonderfully. Also, it's cheaper to set up too. Forget bogwood, go find a dead tree and lop a few branches off it. I'll add to that that I don't know if wood rot will adversly affect the water parameter. Bog wood doesn't rot. Tree branches probably will (lowering pH and adding nitrates etc to the water). Might be worth changing the wood every couple of months.

I dont know about the water color though

To :Waterloo Kid
Do you have any pics?
Thanks

What fish are in there with the angelfish?
Dose that mean they can go together?
What do you suggest for my 55?

No pics. The water was only coloured for about three weeks, and only strongly for one.
My livestock is in my sig. Angelfish can live with many different types of fish as they are RELATIVELY peaceful yet can hold their own if required (up to a point).
If you want to replicate their natural surroundings then you could try tetras, catfish and some other cichlids (isn't that a Festivum in one of the pics?). Just do some research into their biotope and look for fish from the same systems. Just don't put tiny fish in with them such as young tetra. They will probably end up as snacks.

Since you more about Angels thank I how do you suggest
I stock a 55?

2 Angels
20 cardinals
4 yellow and blue rainbows....

or more angels???

With a 55 I think you could get away with 2 pairs, although things might get a bit tight if they breed. If you want to stick to the natural angel biotope theme then ditch the rainbows; they are east Asian not South American.

You point me to a thread about a bloke who swaps his angels for a green terror and then state that you want to keep angels AND terrors! Green terrors are named for a reason! Angels would have no hope! Angels are relatively peaceful fish. Terrors are fighting machines.
Don't fall into the trap of trying to get as much as possible into your tank. Less is much, much more in my opinion. You started out wanting an angel biotope tank and now you are contemplating green terrors. Get yourself an idea and stick with it. Biotope tank, species tank or community. Either is fine and I'm sure you'll do a good job. Just don't mix. It's a recipe for disaster. Close your eyes, think about the tank you would love to have and try to stick with it. It's hard but worth it. I fell for the mix and match trap to start with but after 3 years my tank is starting to look like I wanted it to at the beginning.
The final choice is yours and yours alone. I and the others on this great forum can only advise.

Sounds good. Just be aware that many people believe that angels eat neons. apparently that's their natural diet. My angels haven't even looked interested in the glowlights in the tank which are a similar size.
Also, be aware that neons have a habit of dying due to mass inbreeding and poor quality control. There are loads of tetras to choose from so have a read and a surf and go for the ones you like the look of. A tank with just two species of fish sounds great to me. Keeps the tank focused.

WOW
There have been nearly 150 replys and you rhe only one that wants to help.
Thanks I appericates it

what about a plec or dsome corries?

If you plan on keeping wild angelfish I would recommend low ph 6.0 is good. But seeing as you might be new at caring for angelfish you might want to go with some pure domestics. The water color of the Amazon is tea colored. Not cause it is all nasty but becuase of the peat moss that colors the water that way. You don't need to have peat moss though because only wild caught angelfish need that. I think some driftwood would be nice but you don't have to have it. Also if you get more than one angelfish put some slate in their so if they want to breed they can. :) I hope you find what you are looking for for your tank!

Thanks.
I think I'm going for domestic angelfish.
"@ petco around the block
I can get angels @ 3.99 ea
they are about a little bit
bigget than a quarter

is that good

altums.jpg

i like that can i do that?????
if so how???
i have
1 wt per gallon

Those are Altum angelfish, a wild caught species that are rather rare and expensive. If you want help with planting your tank then I suggest you pop over to the planted tank forum on this site and brush up on some plant care techniques. Believe me, the person who owns that tank is probably a professional. It looks rather Amano to me ( a famous aquascaper). You'd need a heck of a lot more than 1 wpg for that tank. probably metal halides. Get your angels, make them happy and then think about the plants. You can kill fish easily whilst trying to get your plants to grow nicely (I did!). Also, take a look back at your biotope pics. See any living plants in there?
