my angel was suffering from a swollen eye after adding a new angel as it must have bashed it, i changed some water a couple of days after and it stated to look better. the fish hid away after which is totally out of character and hardly came out lost a bit of colour and started to gasp a little and developed a swollen belly. i got home today to find it almost lying on the floor but still alive. i set up a quarantine tank and added salt but was too late to save the fish he died before i could get him in.
i was just wondering if this was due to the beating he must have taken from the other angel that gave him the swollen eye? he was always out and about and active before...
do i need to be concerned about the rest of the fish in the tank, or was it down to stress on this single fish...?
water stats are fine-
nitrite = 0
ammonia = 0
nitrate = 5 - 10
all other fish seem healthy and fine.
the dead angel had no other symptoms apart from whats already been said -
got 1 swollen eye, lost some colour, hid away, gasping a bit, swollen belly, died.....
im going to do a water change tonight just to be safe i think.....

Were scales sticking out as popeye closely related to popeye.

The fish could of been beat up as he was ill.

Water changes for the next few days.

Bless him. R.I.P.

i did look at the scales but its a diamond scale angel so they kind of are raised anyway but they didnt look abnormally raised..... ive done a 30% water change today.

Sometimes sparring angels can cause internal injuries, often when the less aggressive fish is up against the side of the tank or another solid object. Water changes are always a good precaution, on the odd chance there was another contributing factor.

Sorry for your loss.
