Hi, my angels have laid eggs for the second time. the first time they all got eaten by the parents. the eggs have been laid on the filter in a community aquarium so i have put a divider in to keep the rest f the fish away but left the parents in with the eggs.
I want to take the parents out before they start eating the eggs and have heard that you can add methylene blue to the tank to keep the eggs free of fungus. Can anybody tell me if it would be ok to add the meth blue even though there are other fish in the tank.

The other fish are:
1 kissing gourami
1 pleco
1 red tailed shark

Any other advice would be appreciated,
Thanx in advance.

I would think that this would be fine if it is your only option...a lot of your common fish meds contain Methylene blue. When I bred Angels, I would place breeding slates (narrow rectangular slate) into the tank for them to spawn on. Once the eggs had been fertilized, I would drop a one gallon jar into the tank and slide the slate in making sure not to expose the eggs to air. I would then float the jar in the main tank with an airstone (the airstone replaces the fanning of the adults) and the M. blue. This is much easier than treating the whole tank. You can then employ your divider once the fry have hatched.

So it should be fine then? should i put just enough to turn the water light blue or dark blue. im just worried that it might harm the other fish.

I wouldn't use a whole lot, as M. blue will wreak havoc on your biological filtration. Are your Angels caring (removing fungused eggs, fanning, etc.) for the eggs? If so, I wouldn't bother with the Methylene.

Ive tried posting there but it wont let me for some reason.
Yes the parents are looking after the eggs but i am going to move the male angelfish as i think it was him who ate the eggs the first time. Ill see how it goes and may buy some methylene blue tomorrow. i probably wont need it though.

Remove the eggs, not the parents. Sometimes it is difficult to get pairs to spawn again after moving them. They will spawn again, if you can't remove the object they have spawned on block it with something removable for the next spawn. Silk plants work well in a show tank, pvc pipe works in a less showy setup.

If they spawned on a filter intake tube measure the tube, and go to the local hardware store for a piece of tubing the same size. Pull the spawn, replace it for a week with the purchased tubing.

When I pull spawns I add 7 drops per gallon meth blue, 3 drops per gallon Maroxy, and a drop or two per gallon acriflavin. This mix will decimate nitrifying bacteria, I start doing 50% daily water changes on the 4th day after they spawn. By the time they are swimmers the the antifungals/bacterials are diluted to a point that they will not afect a cycled sponge filter.

Thanx for the info, but i have another question. the tails on some of the eggs have come out now. can i still add the methylene blue now, i havent been able to get any over the past couple of days. Is it safe to still add to the eggs? some of them are still turning white.

I wouldn't bother, they are to the point now where you would be doing water changes to remove it.
