Hi with in the last half hour my angelfish have moved their babies from plant and put them on the filter they will be free swimming in 24-48hours. it is a fluval 2 filter and was gone to put tights round it so they didnt get sucked in but know theyve put them on here i cant and have had to turn filter off or theyll get sucked in to it at the moment. how long will bacteria stay on filter while been off???

i could wait till theyre free swimming then put tights on then turn it back on but will this be too late??
hope someone can help asap thanks aloty

There awkward fish at times lol.
Can't turn filter off the bacteria will start to die off.

I don't know what to suggest maybe member are more familar with the problem over in the cichlid part of the forum, I would post there.

its already off and if i turn it back on ill lose all the fry as theyll get sucked in as they are on the filter not free swimming yet
i dunno what to do?

Go to the store and get the appropriate size tubing. Extend the intake and add a sponge, not tights or stocking. If the stocking gets sucked flat to the intake so will the fry, which will kill young fry. The sponge diffuses the flow better.

were abouts does the sponge go its a fluval 2 filter???

my filter is still of at the moment as cant turn it on as fry are still on filter i do have 2 foam filters that are constantly running in there at the moment how long till i lose bacteria in fluval filter while it is off, and how long can i leave it until its too late???

Put the sponge over the intake. I use a steak knife to poke a hole in a filter sponge, and slide the sponge over the intake.

Ahh internal, missed that. Sheets of foam 1/4" thick, around the intakes at the bottom. Rubber bands will work, as will cable ties.
