Not usually, but the parents may have to breed a couple of times before they get the care right.

Do most angels have their parental care instincts bred out of them?
YES, they do. I wonder if anyone else who has replied has bred them?
This is why every angel breeder I know (including myself) removes the eggs and raises the eggs theirselves, because they actually want a bunch of fry. They either eat the eggs or dont fan them enough etc....Angels are one of the most widley tank bred tropical fish contributing to the lack of their parental care. Some do get lucky and have good parents, but this is rare.
Fearce-maybe you could be thinking most cichlids are good parents compared to other fish (especially egg scatterers)?
Compared to a lot of the New world cichlids Angels are pretty awful parents.

I had no problem with my angels, they guarded the eggs and fry well enough.

I'm not sure how you could "breed out" instincts of fish either. Do the fry learn from the parents then? As then removing the fry would be what had caused this, they hadn't learned what to do? As instincts are pre-known actions aren't they? That would mean they aren't taught by adults. I'm at a loss to see how you can breed out instincts....

But yes some fish aren't great parents, some take a few attempts to get it right etc.

No i have not bred them.

Thanks
uhh?

the parental care angels show for thier young is truely admirable. although in the first few spawns, they may consume their eggs or young but this behavior would stop after a few tries. what comes next is almost flawless defending and absolute care for their young. for more info, check out this link.
