Doe's anyone out there have any experiences with mixing Tiger barbs and Angelfish? I'd like to add about 8-10 Tigers with 2 Angelfish. I know that the Tigers can become nippy. My Anglefish are close to being full grown.

Thanks

Tank size?

Usually, this would be a big no-no, but you have two things goin for ya:

1. The more Tigers you have, the more they will leave the other fish alone.
2. Full grown Angels would fare a lot better than younger ones.

Again though, what's the tank size?

DB :fish:

It's a 30 gal. I might even be pushing it by having Angels in a 30 gal, but it should be tall enough for them.

angels need at least an 18" tall tank due to the length of their ventral fins.

also it is true the more TB's you have the more peacefull they are to other fish
my school is 14 strong, and I have no problems at all with aggression.

My tank is around 18" tall. I think I'm going to add about 10 Tigers over a period of a few weeks. I love the way they school together. Out of curiosity Wolf, what other fish do you have with your Tiger barbs? Are Tiger barbs hardy? Is there anything else I should know about them?

Thanks

I have danios, tetras, rasboras and botias with them.

I've always toyed with TB and Angels but not taken the plung as yet. Everyone says its a no no. But LFS said the say when I gto the African Butterfly fish and he's been just fine.

A shoal of barbs are too busy chasing each other and eating to notice and thing else.

I'd say give it a go, then let me know how u get on:p

Either way TB will give you hrs of entertainment... they're just crazy :fun:

my tigers are very hardy the
first fish in my tank bought 6 only lost one but that was about two months after they arnt nippy at all rtbs keeps them in order. my clowns like to swim with them all the time

When i first got sum angels i already had tb's in the tank so i bought a fish net breeder n put the tigers in there cuz they were nipping my angels. After a week or so in the net i put the tb's in they re new 10g home i just bought for them. Then i needed the 10g so i decided to put them back with my angels now alot larger than b4 and havent had a problem since. My tank is 125g but i only have 3 tb's. I guess they learned their lesson not to mess with my angels, cuz they no longer mess with my angels or other fish.

If you put tiger barbs in with your angels you will be very sorry....

Tiger barbs should not be put with any fish that have long flowing fins. These fish (tiger barbs) can be quite nasty no matter how many you put in a school. I would only put tiger barbs in a species tank with their own kind. They will also go after cory cats. Yes it is true the more of them you have the less aggression but please don't put them in with angels. You can make a beautiful tank with an assortment of barbs and plants. Pleco's can also stand their ground to barbs but I have noticed that at times the barbs might nip their tails.

I no longer keep barbs due to they type of tank I have now but I would strongly recommend that you follow the above recommendation. It will make for a much nicer tank and less hassle too.

Good Luck.....bugsy :)

i dont no if i would do it... specially since you dont exactly have room for a huge shoal of tb's

I took the plunge. I added 5 Tigers and they seem to get along fine with my Angelfish. I'm going to add another 5 over the next few weeks. My Angles are fairly big and the Tigers seem to be a little curious, but they aren't doing anything. I don't think 10 Tiger barbs is a hugh shoal for a 30 gallon either. Lots of room to swim.
