Angelfish And Bloodworm

I used to feed my fish bloodworm once a week (especially as the corys really loved it) but when I got my Angelfish I realised he bloated up everytime he ate it. I stopped feeding bloodworm but then today thought I'd give it another try and he's all bloated up again.

Are angelfish not supposed to eat bloodworm?? If they can eat it why does he bloat up everytime he eats it??

I feed my fish vegetables and frozen and live food. I rarely feed dry food.

My Angel loves bloodworm, he warths is down without a problem...strange!

Some types of bloodworm is sterilised and is much less likely to cause bloating, but other brands are not. These types that are not sterilised contain lots of bacteria and can be a problem to some fish. The other thing is the head of the bloodworm is very hard and often causes blockages. Try a different brand of bloodworms and see what happens. Hikari brand is usually safe.
You can also feed mysis shrimp, brineshrimp & daphnia to the fish. Marine mix (prawn, fish & squid) makes a good food.

angels are monsters to bloodworms. they steal it from the mouth of my bichir and fire eels. i've been using hikari for quite sometime now and i do find it without problems.

My angel also gets bloated with bloodworms so I switched to brinesrimp instead and he likes them just as much.

Bloodworms are a heavy, high protein food. I feed bloodworms once weekly, followed by a feeding of brine shrimp. The roughage in the brine shrimp helps clean them out.

I normally follow bloodworm with brineshrimp/Daphnia and peas and this generally clears things up but for the day he's bloated i get seriously worried he's gonna pop, he looks like he's swallowed a big marble!!

I think it's just greed. I have fed bloodworm again today so will see what he looks like in an hours time
