Hi everyone,
The other day I noticed that one of my Angelfish had a tiny bit of red on his face right between his eye and mouth, it wasn't signifigant so I didn't really think anything of it, but today I noticed the red streaks got alot worse and at first I thought it was nipping and googled "Angelfish bleeding" (as I thought it was blood), he was also staying at the bottom under one of the bogwood caves in the shade for alot of the time, anyway I saw Ammonia poisoning pop up so I looked into that and it looks like he has most of the symptoms. I took a water test and the results were:
Ph: 7.3
NH3: 0
NO2: 0 or 0.1
NO3: 10 or a bit less

Does anyone know whether it is Ammonia poisoning or something else, What could have caused it, and what I can do to treat him (if I can, i've heard its impossible). If you need any other info just let me know.
Help is really appreciated.

As I've just said on another thread, any level of nitrite (NO2) need to be brought down to zero with some warm water changes, and see how he looks after that. Good clean water is first aid for fish.

Thanks for the response. Im sure the nitrate level is 0, I'll have another check and come back to you on that one. But is he able to recover?

Edit: We'll the nitrite isn't showing any sign of colour which is good, But its water change day tomorrow, so i'll see how that changes things

If you're water's kept good then he'll probably recover; fish are remarkably resiliant, but watch to make sure he doesn't deteriorate any more or develop any new symptons.
An elevated nirite level would suggest that some hiccup in your biofiltration has caused an ammonia spike and you're now seeing the nitrite spike of a little mini-cycle.

Thanks Fluttermoth, I did a pretty big water change last week as I was on holiday and wanted to be sure that they were all heathy, but I've seen info from http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/ammoniapoison.htm which indicates that, that may be the cause. Ironic, huh?
