Hello all,

Purchased my first angel on Thursday last week. Over the weekend I found that the dorsal fin was split right down the middle. Will this heal over time? It's a juvenile, approx 2.5" nose to tail.

Here's a pic that shows the fin

the best thing for damaged fins ime is plenty of fresh water. that does look a bit odd though on your angel.... maybe its a deformaty

SHould heal fine.

I had a large Angel who split his dorsal just like that a year or so ago. It literally healed up as good as new in 2 days. Clean, fresh water and decent food is all it will need.

thanks, doing a WC tonight so will monitor for the next few days.

Yeah water changes. It freaks me out how quickly my female angel recovers from splits. I think she gets into with someone over her eggs, she looks tattered for a few days and then she is all put together again.

Yup, clean water heals most if not all nips/tears etc. Some fish heal quicker and better than others though. For example my Oscar has had loads of scrapes/nips etc from my old GT, and he heals within 1-2 days, but my Green Sev who I bought with a split in her dorsal still hasn't fully grown it back, despite growing well. Maybe it won't though.

Absolutely true.

I have an Uaru which I bought with most of it's pectoral fins bitten off, and a huge split in it's caudal fin. About two months later, the healing progress is painfully slow, despite him feeding well and even growing a little bit in the meantime.

Just checked the angel....almost fully healed, about a 1.5cm tear left. I took the photos at about 7pm last night....amazing! Must be my pristine water quality! :D

Was going to originally be called 'Capone' for the jailbird style stripes....due to the regenerative powers displayed, thinking of changing to 'Wolverine'

Or how about "Logan", sounds cooler than Wolverine IMO. Glad your angels on the way to recovery though :)

Gorgous looking angel. I found angels heal really quickly, as do oscars  my little keeps getting nips out of his tail.

Logan - I like that, and will hopefully make me sound less of a sad git when I tell people

Gorgous looking angel.
