Hi everyone,

One of my angels doesn't seem to be itself for the last few days.
It is hanging out in the same part of the tank and I haven't seen it eat. Flake, frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp.
and peas once a week, also tried soaking some flake in garlic juice.
My other angel is behaving normal.

Its a 240ltr tank.
inhabitants are:
2 small Angels (2.25 inches) added approx 6 weeks ago after finishing cycling.
12 serpae tetras, added at the same time.
4 yoyo loaches, added just over a week ago.

Stats are
Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10ish
water changes every week 25%
Juwel internal filter
Eheim Pro2 added 1.5 weeks ago, (eventially will remove the Juwel internal)

I have seen no signs of disease, have not observed tiolet habits of the angel.

The water flow of the tank has increased a bit with the addition of the eheim and he is probably hanging out in the part of the tank with a lesser amount of flow.

Just starting to get abit concerned.

Any fish stressing him out.
Does he look pale or darker in colour.
Does he look bloated or thin.
Is he clamping his fins.
Does he hide away.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
What does his gills look like.
Any excess mucas on gills or body of fish.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Can he maintain balance in the water.
Can he get off bottom and top of tank.
Does he lean to oneside.
Check his anus to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.

You will need a separate med tank, a 10 gallon will work fine. Pick up some metronidazole, 40mg/gallon, with daily water changes & remed. Bring the tank temperature up to 90F, make sure there is plenty of aeration. After 3 days sprinkle a little metro on some frozen brine shrimp, feed this once daily.

Continue for 10-14 days.

Hi Wilder,

To answer your questions
Certainly the serpae's are boisterous but pretty much leave the 2 angels well enough alone.
Coloring is as normal
Doesn't look either bloated or thin
No clamping
Gills look ok
No mucas
No signs of flicking or rubbing
Balance is fine
He/she is not hanging around the bottom anyway
No leaning
Checked its rear end, I can't see anything.

Tolak, I did a a quick search on metronidazole. Are you suggesting its something bacterial, if so what makes you think this?
Would anything else do?

Cheers

metronidazole.

Its and internal wormer and bacterial med all rolled into one.

Is there an over the counter brand name?
Appears to be not easy to get here in Aus.

I've got some waterlife products in the cupboard, would sterazin help?

Cheers

No the waterlife med no good.

Pm colin t as he's from australia. Leave the link to the thread in the pm aswell.

Metronidazole is sold as Flagyl but you need a doctors or vet prescription to get it in Australia.

What is the temperature of the tank?

Try some live brineshrimp or mozzie larvae. They might get it going.

Ahh ok.

Tank is at 26 degrees,
Is dropping to 24 over night with the colder weather coming on.
I've got a new Hydor external 300W heater (current is the original standard juwel heater 200W) which I was planning on setting up tomorrow.

I'll try and get some live stuff.

Cheers

Got some live brine shrimp this morning.

The Angel just wasn't interested, the other one was only soso with them as well.
The other fish were pretty chuffed though.

I think you will have to phone or go to a vet and get some Metronidazole

Well...what a change.

Changed the flow of the eheim to more against the glass.
Also added a few more plants.
Noticed later in the day the behaviour of the non eating Angel was a little more active than it has been.
Threw in some flake, eating like a little pig.

Fed them again today, no problems.
The flow/current wasn't huge but obviousily enough to have such a dramatic effect.
There you go.

Glad he back to his normal self.
I strong current can stress fish out.
