Ok well i have a 29 gallon CYCLED. i have 3 serpea tetras and some snails in the tank. all water test turned out to be in good quality. the problem is, EVERY time i buy an angel fish, it dies. i just dont know why. there are no aggressive fish, no disease, and good water perimeters (Slightly acidic). i just dont know why they die. when i buy angelfish it is only one, so they arent killing eachoter, and i have only had one in at the same time. they only thing i can think of is that i have a HOB filter that might be to strong causing stress. could this be it? if not i am open to suggestions, beacuse i dont want to keep killing them. i have tried like 3 times! thanks to anyone who helps.

first things first, whats a HOB filter?

HOB is used to say Hang On Back filter. it hangs on the back and sucks the water up through a tube, goes through the media and then because of gravity the water falls back into the water clean.

You could also canister filter :p

Anyways, I really don't see why the angelfish would be dying, filter current shouldn't do that! It might be stress of moving, do you live far away from the pet store? Could parameters be different? How do you acclimate them?

Most Angelfish you get from the pet store is probably going to be pretty inbred and thus more likely to die due to weakness. This may also depend on where they get it from. You might want to try getting one from another store?

Any other fish you put into the tank die?

Start with better stock. Find an independantly owned shop that buys locally bred angels, or look for a local breeder. It could also be a dietary problem, what are you feeding the angels after you get them?

did all the angels come from the same LFS? if you pm me i do know a Angel breeder, not saying things will be any different, but her fish are not known for dying, well soon after purchase anyway.

I have got 2 from petco which are very small so im not overly suprised that they died, but then i got two from a place called scotts in Oakbrook which the store is very good. i am going to try one more time at a different store called trop-aqautics. the angels that i have gotten are like 10min from my house. i aclimate them by first allowing them to adujust to temperature. since there are just a few tetras i after getting them used to temp, i slowly let them adjust to differnt water parimeter by allowing little by little for water from tank to flow in bag. i then release the angel into the water. the lights are off for the day, and i dont feed it. i usually do give them tropical flakes, and a little bit of brine shrimp and i sometimes feed them fegie flakes as well. the water is filled to the top so the filter doestn make much current. none of the fish are aggressive as well.

My girlfriend has the same problem, she just can't keep Angels. No clue why, I've got no problem with them and they pretty much never die on me with the exception of 3 that died due to being stored in a crappy little bin until the tank was cycled.
Mabye you're just not meant to have angelfish, I know of alot of people who just can't seem to get em to live.

"3 serpea tetras"

Thats the first thing that caught my eye. They are pretty well known to nip fins, any torn fins or anything on the angelfish?

Add that to being new, possible shock from new water. Plus possible immune system issues within the angelfish, problem.

i am aware of the nipping of serpea tetras so i have watched them carefuly, and i have had no problem.
