I have an Angel, 3 Dwark Cockatoo Cichlids ( 1 male and 2 females) and a Pleco i was wondering if it would be possible to add a trio of Kribs ( 1 male and 2 female)? i dont know much about these but they are beautiful, is there any info i must know? or is theyr care similar to the Cockatoos?

Thanx in Advance, Vamp.

a trio of kribs wont work. there is a strong chance in one of the kribs being injured and possibly killed. a pair will work.

Infact for Cichlids, tank floor space is more important the gallons. I'd guess the capacity of a 4 foot to be between 40 and 60 gallons, depending on the other dimensions.

Kribs might work in the tank, but you'll have to be aware that they are as territorial as your apisto's when breeding, Make sure if you do mix them that you have plenty of spare caves and spawning sites for the kribs, they are similar to apisto's in care terms, but are larger so they might bully the cockatoos if there is a fight over territory. I would also add tall plants to break up the space, and give hiding spaces for the fish if they are being chased.

In general for Dwarf Cichlids i would also add a small shoal of dither fish to your tank. Not small tetras as they may be eaten by the angel, but larger tetras like cardinal or emporer tetras would work well. Pencil fish are popular with dwarf cichlids as they are slower swimmers and less likely to eat any fry you may have from the kribs or cockatoos.

I would not add kribs if I were you. They are too aggressive for Central/South American Cichlids. The Cockatoos will be harassed no matter what. I have found them to be aggressive even when they are not breeding. Someone just posted a few days ago of a Krib that killed one of their Cockatoos, and I tried having a couple Kribs with some Rams and it didn't work well. Maybe you could go for some type of Ram or a couple Keyholes? Schooling fish like MHunt suggested would be good too.

Apisto's breed in harems, kribs breed in pairs, and on female krib will get beat up, let the other 2 pair off and get rid of the weak one.

Kribs are not that aggressive as long as they are not spawning. Too keep it peaceful, you should add only one, but if you can see some action, you can get a pair. I woudn't get trio though.

I would not add kribs. I had a pair of kribs for about 2yrs and they killed off every other bottom dwelling fish I put in. I had plenty of territories, hiding spaces, etc but it didn't matter. I tried rearranging the tank so their chosen spawning site was on the side rather than in the middle, but it didn't matter. The kribs were not at all tolerant of anybody else down at their level. If you do get them, definitely just get a pair, not a trio.

personally i wouldnt go for kribs. like everyone said, they are too aggressive. regarding your angels, shouldnt they be kept in even numbers? 2, 4, 6...

Well i have a pair of albino kribs and they are in a 20g tank 2 mollies, 3 swords, a school of wild minnows, a golly, a flower pot, a pvc pipe, and a amazon sword plant, and like 5 grass like plants that havent grown in yet. I barely ever have deaths and i have seen my kribs attack anytihng or show the least bit aggression.
