yaaaaay, its my first time that angel fish have spawned for me. I thought they were too young! as it only seemed not long ago i bought them as babies!!

so its a white angel (female i think) and a black and silver that have laid a load of eggs in lines up my juwel 240 filter. the tank has around 11 angels in, and the 2 that have spawned are keeping every one else at the other end of the tank. :grr:

i have other tanks set up and running so im instrested in any advice on giving this first batch a chance in hatching .

also my albino corrys have been spawning today in (a different tank) but that seems to happen on a weekly basis with no success of hatching but i thinks it due to having 7 females and 1 male, but thats a different story.

all advice welcome. :D

Congratulations a.i.m, Are you planning on raising the fry? If you are the best thing to do is to put the eggs in a seperate tank. Medicate with Methaline blue and make sure you have plenty of circulation in the tank.

By the way, you have this in the African cichlid forum. Angelfish threads fit better in the "New World Cichid" forum :)

congrats aim!!!
wish I could do angels :X
anywho, keep us posted here in africans, it always amazes me when I hear about eggs laid anywhere close to filters because when they hatch... how on earth do they NOT get sucked up???
pics would be cool too!!
good luck

I was probably the angels themselves, what other fish do you have in with them?

They will eat their own eggs if they feel threatened and its not uncommon for them to eat their first few batches but dont worry, now that they have paired off they will probably spawn every 4 weeks or so. Mine do every 3-4 weeks and always eat the eggs as I dont have room to breed them probally but I think someone has already given you a link to Tolaks thread on breeding angels and its very helpfull if you have the ambition and the room to breed them properly.

Good luck

i got all excited when my angels spawned for the first time last week.

they were doin really well too but then after a few days all the eggs were gone. eaten i think.

didnt even kno i had a pair so its still pretty cool!

Totaly gutted as all the eggs have gone! :/ looks like a plec has munched them i bet .
Yep thats a pleco for ya. I was told that a pleco will eat the eggs even if the parents are nipping at it to get it away. Or if the other fish just kept getting to close they could have got scared and ate them.

Ive moved the pair into a 25gal tank of their own. Ive put a piece of slate which is 3" wide and 15" long for them to lay their eggs on. The temp is a bit higher than the tank they came from and ive upped their food intake with more brine shrimp, worms and blood worms.

So is it just a waiting game from now on in ?
Is there any thing else i should be doing?

Thanks B)

I would cut back on the bloodworms because I read that its something with them that they can't handle it well or when the worms get them fat they can't keep their balance because of their shape.

You may need to wait a bit more than 3-4 week's as you implied they are still young, and therfore they probably arnt fully mature yet. Just think of it like early puberty in humans, horney as hell but not firing on all cylinders :fun:

 Andrew

Right this is the second time they have laid eggs now - but this time im ready.
Being in a 33gal tank of their own and have been fed well for the last few weeks. There is no one to eat the eggs or disturb them.
They are now running lines up and down the large internal box filter and have been for 40 mins or so.
micro worms well and truly ready for when the eggs hatch.

Im soooo excited B)

Good luck! Could you post some pics of them breeding and some of the eggs and the parents? :hey:

I would cut back on the bloodworms because I read that its something with them that they can't handle it well or when the worms get them fat they can't keep their balance because of their shape.

Where did you read this? Thats not true unless the only thing being fed was blood worms. But then again, no fish would do well eating only ONE type of food. If you fed a fish only brine shrimp, plankton, or krill for its whole life, then it probably wouldnt do so well. It is important to vary a fishes diet. But feeding blood worms every day will not make them sick.
