USA,
i will be getting some angelfish for my 29 gallon tank soon. it is all cyled because i used all my old stuff from my old tanks to cycle it. i want to get a pair to breed. it seems though as if they rae not the best parents. would they be okay to breed in a community, and if so, would it be best to have the parents raise them or by themselves in another tank. i read something about breeding them in a magazine, but i lost it so i thought id ask here.

u should keep them in the same tank with the parents so that they can fan the eggs

Your best bet for that tank size is to get around 6 juvie angels, and let them grow and pair off naturally. Once you get a pair sell or re-house the remaining 4 fish. As mwm stated, they can get pretty nasty, not only when spawning, but just by being a pair definding their "territory".

They are not real good at raising the spawn at first, many times eating the eggs, wigglers, or fry. I always try to let my pairs parent raise, none have been good at it yet. If you do plan to pull and raise a spawn, be prepaired to get more tanks. I have 135 gallons between 5 tanks dedicated for 1 spawn.

There are quite a few books written about breeding angelfish. A magazine article can only touch on some of the basics.

HTH, if you want to learn more, PM me & I'll get back to you. There is quite a bit involved with it, but once you get the hang of it, it's not real hard.

I second the get 6 motion.

Try Axelrod's book on angel breeding. Sort of dry, but it was useful for me. :dunno:

that sounds like a bit much. all angelfish around me cost $10 each, and there is no way i will spend that one 6 angels. ill just have to stick with kribs and some kind of tetra.

Try working out a deal with your lfs to get 6, let them pair off, and give beck the ones that don't pair off for a refund or store credit.

wow $10 they are 4-6$ canadian here 6$ for the big ones they had a BIG breeding pair at my LFS for like $14 i wish i had the room

wow i can get juvie angels for less then 2$ each, sucks to be u for the price u gotta pay
