okay i'm pretty sure my pair is gonna spawn soon. their breeding tubes are now really visible and the female is checking out my filter tube. it'd probably happen in a day or two. they are breeding faster than i expected and the thing is, my previous batch of fry is still in the tank. should i risk transfering them now? or when the eggs appear. they look really fragile at this point in time.

You could always just throw the eggs. No problem, and it isn't un-humane. Infact, this is more like in-mother nature

If not, you have two other options:
Stick them into a Breeding net in the tank with fry
Pray to God that the parents don't eat the eggs, and raise them fully by themselves

I move 5-7 day old fry on a regular basis. Siphon the fry into a bucket, 1/2" tubing works great for this. Pour off excess water, and slowly pour the fry into another tank. Once in a while a couple of fry are left in the bucket, add a little water back to the bucket, swish & pour.

I find that there is less loss this way than if I net them, and it goes quicker. The pair may eat the fry defending the eggs, or may figure the fry ate the eggs if you pull the spawn, and eat them.

thanks for the comments. i've just siphoned out the fry and they are in a separate tank now. the female looks bloated at the moment with breeding tubes out.
