They still suck up nutrients from algae by floating on top of water surface, rite?

Yep and if you float them they deffuse light which helps stop algae in the lower levels without blocking out to much from getting to the plants below. It also means it wont grow root into the substrate which can be a sod when you take it out as it'll take out the other plants with it!
