Hey folks, I'm a live plant noob even though I've been keeping fish for a while.  I've got a few stems of anacharis in the tank that I added about two weeks ago.  I've noticed some branching from the stems I'd planted.  Recently, I've noticed very rapid root growth from these branches.  Does anyone know what the appropriate thing to do here is?  Does the branch need to be detached from the main stem?

Any help would be appreciated!

Here's some of the branches.  I planted them to form arches that the fish love to swim through.

Your plants are growing so you can either leave them alone or trim them. It's up to you!

depends if you want them to fan, out with stem plants not 100% if this is true with this plant, but if you cut it say half way down, the part that is still in the ground wont grow a single stem but will grow multiple stems from where you cut this is how i am fanning my tank out i have trimmed my stem plants so they fan out with about 2 or 3 stems from the point of cutting rather than the one, now the price you have cut of can be planted and will just continue to grow as one stem.

so with this theory if you cut the stem that is growing off, you should see 2 or 3 more stems growing from that point :) if you leave it it will just continue to grow like normal and get big as well :)

it is up to you i wont let them fan out a bit and when you fell they are over grown cut them bin them give them away or replant them :D
