well its been a week or more and Fish's lump has gotten much bigger, taking on a blue/black/purple tinge. im fearing it is not constipation but a tumour? ive never had to deal with this in a fish before so would really like some opinions as to what it could be?

and if it is a tumour, is there any hope? its bigger one one side of his body than on the other which makes me think its something growing inside him :( im heartbroken really this is my first betta and ive not even had him three months :(

Oh he is beautiful, tumour or no. I am no expert but I do think you may be right - however, some fish live long lives with tumours. i guess it;s the same as with humans - depends on whether it is malignant or not. Just as long as he is behaving normally, i wouldn't worry too much.

I was looking at Betta's yesterday and seen one exactly like this with a lump in the same place. I don't know what it is, i really hope its not serious for you xx

have you tried internal antibacterial meds? I would give that a try. though I think it looks like a tummor.

I have had two bettas with tummors, the male had a tummor on his side and lived for more then a year with it. the female that I still have has the tummor in her belly area and she is has had it for several months and is still the happy betta.

when the betta starts acting off and unhappy, its time to quickly end their suffering. a heavy dose of clove oil and a sharp knife is what I use to be as pain free as possible.

The belly would usually be uniformly bulging all over the belly in both constipation and dropsy. It's possible he has a benign growth or a cyst or something. There really isn't anything you can do for that if a cyst than perhaps anti bac will help as said above but you might try treating for constipation just to see if that helps.
i.e. by feeding a boiled blanched shelled pea

I don't really think he's developing dropsy. Dropsy is a condition from organ failure that causes fluid buildup and the scales begin to develop a pinecone look. and isn't generally localized to one area of the belly as you said the growth is on one side the likelyhood is that it is not dropsy

ive been treating for two weeks for constipation with no luck :)

he'sz fine in himself, swimming around normally flaring annoying his new tank mates. poor little bugger though.

If he is eating and flaring I shouldnt worry. I have one with a tumor and as he is bubble nesting I am just leaving him.
That is one of my most fave colours I love it, havent seen one round near me that colour for months!

what u see on ur beta is not a tumor or constipation it is called bloat.. (this kind of bloat in beta's is not the same as bloat in cichlids)
ive been breeding many types of beta for 8yrs and many of them have this problem (no it wont kill them) the bloat is caused by a reaction from the food they are being fed and the ph being more alkaline than it should be the ph will react with the beta pellets.
the problem can be fixed
betas like most fish will eat and eat if u give them the chance ur best bet is to cut the feeding down to once a day and only give him 2 of the pellets each feeding time......if u feed him frozen or dried bloodworms as well do the same but dont give him them at the same time as the pellets make the bloodworms like a weekend treat for him. get ahold of some betafix from ur local petstore/aquarium wich it will help with the bloating as well
i hope what ive told u has helped dont stress he shall be fine as it is very common in this breed of fish

Skittz may be right. Eetz notta TOO-mah. If he's active and eating well, it's most likely boat.

thing is, in all honesty, he's had no food for darn near 2 weeks, i was told to starve him in case it was constipation, he had a 1/2 pea every 5 days, how can that be feeding too much? he's gone back to normal diet now i sure it wasnt constipation and the lump is no smaller.
surely if it was bloat it would have gone down with lack of food??

what type of food do u feed him...........look to tell u the truth if he is swiming around eating and looks happy there is nothing to worry about i can guarantee u it is bloat and yes u can get rid of it but some beta's take longer and some will neva get rid of it its very common in them wich is nothing to be concerned about alot of the betas ive had from fry have gotten bloat and have been living a normal and happy life and they are almost 3yrs old

Personally I feel its much more likely its a tumor or a cyst and therefore it wont decrease in size, it is most definitely not dropsey perhaps it is bloat but bloat/constipation for this long seems unusual to me.

im still thinking cyst/tumour due to the colouring and growth. it hasnt decreased, its grown more if anything, but not so big to inhibit his swimming.
if it does get to the point where he struggles with it i will have to do the dreaded but kindest thing.

for now he's happy (or so he seems)
