Well, it's summer again and my house is as usual infested with bugs and insects. One earwig however slipped into my tropical aquarium (attracted to the warmth and moisture probably) and one of my oscars went up and ate the earwig.

I was wondering if my oscar would be alright? Would the earwig make my oscar sick?

it should be fine you can feed them worms out the garden and stuff so an earwig wouldnt do any harm imo

I would think it's doubtful. I have an open-top tank, so i must imagine that my fish get tasty treats like flies etc reasonably often. I have never noticed any ill effects.

I wouldn't worry unless the fish appears to become ill.

Hello Folkes,

I've been popping all the insects I find in the house into my fishtank for years.

Doesn't have seemed to have caused any ill effects.

Come September when the Daddy Long-legs are about (Crane Flies) my fish get a treat most days.
My Golden Wonder Panchax really loves them.

as stated above dont worry, there not poisionous!!!
they eat all and more in the wild so no worries,
mine get woodlice, crane flys/spiders/worms/anything that wonders past me

Wait... so are daddy long legs fine to feed to my fish? I thought they were poisonous.

aye shouldn't cause any problems.

we've recently got a gecko and we feed him live crickets, if i still had an oscar i'd be feeding him some of those for sure. the cats take care of any that we drop as it is.

is that the "daddy long legs are the most venomous animal in the world, but has nothing to inject it" malarky?

if so, its complete rubbish lol. :good:

There is an urban legend stating that the daddy long-legs spider has the most potent venom of any spider, and this same legend is attributed to crane flies where they commonly go by the name "daddy-long legs". However, both the daddy long-legs spider and the crane fly are in fact innocuous; the spider's venom is practically harmless to humans, and the crane fly is not venomous. The commonly confused harvestman, also known as daddy long-legs but which isn't a spider, is also not venomous.

Man, long old thread rebirth time. Maybe we should incorporate earwigs as live food for fish?

The start of this thread was an Oscar they are greedy pigs that eat anything. They will take your finger if you give them half a chance. They are also as tough as old boots, it would take a lot to kill an Oscar. I had butterfly fish they would eat anything that landed on the tank. Mossies, spiders, flys.
