Hi everyone,
I'm Scott from Brisbane, Australia. I really don't know a whole heap about tropical fish, but from what I have seen so far this is the place to learn.

My partner and I currently have a small 40l tank that we have kept 5 Maingano's (Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos I think they are called now) in over time (4 at any one time). We have lost 1 and gained 1 in the 2 years we have had the tank. We originally kept them with 2 leleupi (Neolamprologus leleupi) but the mainganos were just too aggressive for the poor little fellas. The advice we got from the store was to overcrowd them so they became less territorial, is this good idea?

We are moving house soon and have just purchased a new 75l (2 foot) tank and were wondering what to do. We would like to add a bit of variety to the tank, but not too sure what will work well with the mainganos.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the great forum.

Oh, and is the Fluval 2 an ok internal filter?

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum but your questions need to go in the appropriate forum as no one really comes in here often.
I have no idea what fish they are so i'm useless, sorry.

Hi guys. I will put my questions in the right areas, still coming to grips with things though so sorry for my ignorance.

You could try asking in the African cichlid section but to be honest your new tank is still too small for the four fish you have already.
Malawis are overstocked to prevent them forming territories and reduce boundary disputes but these fish should be around 8-10cm each and you will probably be best just upgrading the tank & sticking with just the ones you have already.
A fluval 2 is fine.

Fluval 2 is a really good internal filter, I had one running in a 55 litre, not sure how it will run in a 75 litre??
